This is an odd beer. Black out of the bottle with a sticky brown head. Odd nose of wet mulch and old fruit. The fruit is fairly pronounced with lots of medicinal blueberry and raspberry flavors. Tastes like cough syrup. Vanilla and milk chocolate vie for attention with the fruitiness. I get some alcohol and a bit of bourbon from the barrel, but all in all this did not do well for me.

10.5%ABV. Imperial Stout. Poured out black. 40SRM. Nose has dark chocolate, fruit, raisins, coffee, blueberry muffin in the nose. Creamy in the nose with a pleasant cake-like comforting aroma. Mouthfeel is closer to porter than to an imperial stout. The fruity palate completely obliterates the usual palate of a stout that is predominated by charcoal, ume and dry. This one was sour, then sweet then fruity with a hint of ume dryness. There is a strong flavor of prunes and prune juice combining dark fruit flavor. There is also a very prominent flavor of grape juice, just like if you caught a pinot just as the beginning of fermentation where there are still a lot of fruity, sweet and juicy flavors and some tannin in the finish. A random malt flavor tasting is that of honeyed figs. No hops. Malt palate is roasted malt with ume dryness and some coffee. Vanilla to smooth things over and to enrich and "thicken" the palate with creamy flavors. Finish is dry and ume and ultimately true to the style. Goes on Favorites List!
