This one is near and dear to our hearts. Brewmaster Jeremy Kosmicki wanted to make the birthday of his little sister, Liz, a special one. So he did what he does best and brewed a stout using a few of her favorite ingredients: fresh Michigan blueberries, rich chocolate and vanilla aged in bourbon barrels to round out those beautiful flavors. Liz was floored and we think you will be too.

Wowzers.....mega sweet minerals and chic orange....bordering on silly really but of course has a certain appeal. Actually, upon some reflection this is indeed too sweet and reminisce of the the crazy shit that gets brewed for GABS. No hardness from the ABV at all which is a surprise. I wonder what the exact style is? Is it beer? (6 euro half pint Taphouse Madrid)

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Aroma is sweet dark malt, blueberries, maple syrup, roast, molasses, chocolate, don't get much bourbon. Flavour is very syrupy, sweet and cloying and lightly bitter. Body is full and sticky. A bit too syrupy and sweet but a nice beer to sip on.

Sampled at Billies Craftbeerfest 2017. Thnx for sharing, everyone ! Don't mind the visual info to much, as lighting was really bad. Pours black, small white head. Smell is thick, creamy, sweet, milkchocolate. Taste is full, intense, milkchocolate, lactic, cacao. OK

750ml bottle, 2017 vintage. Sweet blueberry aroma with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla, oak and bourbon. Pours dark mahogany colored with a thin mocha head that has little retention or lacing. Starts with rich chocolate and blueberry sweetness as well as a bit of roasted malt to go with the full body and silky smooth mouthfeel. Finishes extremely smooth wih more berry sweetness as well as nice bourbon, vanilla and oak flavors. Excellent twist on the traditional bourbon stout!

Bourbon barrel aged fruit stout by this big name in American craft beer culture, glad I got to taste this at BCBF after coincidentally having read about it somewhere. Moussy, lacing, pale beige-ish head, black robe with mahogany brown edges. Aroma has a weird, fresh peppermint leaf-like quality to it, nothing I associate with either blueberries or barrel aging, next to milk chocolate bars, vanilla beans, bourbon, leather, cinnamon, incense even, brandy, wet wood, toffee. Sweet, bit syrupy onset, blueberry flavors indeed but in a sedate, restrained kind of way, feeling more fig- and blackberry-like actually, in a softly carbonated, thick and oily body. Caramelly and chocolatey maltiness, aromatic peppermint- and cinnamon-like qualities returning retronasally, sweetness remaining, fruity acidic touch, some subtle woody tannins and vanilla lingering, warming alcoholic finish. Technically very well-made like everything Founders does; weird though, but certainly different and fascinating. Not what I was expecting from a blueberry stout - but altogether pleasant and surprising. I can imagine this being one of those beers that can sharply divide opinions.

Pours like Hershey’s chocolate syrup into a snifter, with a robust mahogany. Aroma of blackberry and chocolate are strong and enticing. Flavor was a big let down, bittersweet and flat tasting with almost no bourbon notes to balance it out. Finish is short with sparse complexity. Should’ve spent longer in the barrel. A surprisingly mediocre beer from a great brewery in Founders.
