4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at brewpub. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus, earthy hop, wood and alcohol aroma. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate alcohol bite at the finish. Standout brew.
This draft brew from rbsg #7 poured a extremely small sized head of medium sized white colored bubbles that were and left behind a slightly hazy dark orange colored body and a poor lacing. The aroma was citrus hoppy orange and musty. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The strong flavor contained notes of mildly vinous and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again. bigtaster (976) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUN 18, 2012
On tap in shifter. Orange yellow color, very hazy, small off white head. Notes of sweet butterscotch some hop spice, also get caramel and other less defined spice. Medium carbonation, medium body, immediate bitter hops that continues to the finish. Flavors follow the nose, with butterscotch and Piney hop spice. The beer has great balance between the brandy sweetness and happiness along with some spice. As I expect from founders its amazing. VertBaconStrips (2389) - Blerkablerka, VENEZUELA - JUL 19, 2011
On tap at Founders during RBSG 2010. How can one possible follow up CBS and KBS with anything and be impressed? This is how. Slight haze inside the gold brew, small cap. The notes are lacking here a bit - I definitely was getting caught up in the event. Wow. What a great aroma! One zillion % hops, rrgf, apricots, light pine.. then it morphs into floral notes, candy, xmas something, very sweet caramel and a bit of booze. The taste is very sweet with alcohol, weed, herbs, rrgf, pine, brandy, a bit drying... my love for this did fade quicker than I hoped even after a glass of water and a good rinse between beers. Too much alcohol. Still, pretty good. tomthompson89 (1982) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 18, 2011

tap at the brewpub last summer - This copper colored brew has a huge hop aroma with citrus and floral notes. The flavor is intensely bitter and the high abv is mostly buried. It’s surprisingly smooth on the palate, probably from the barrel aging that leaves quite subdued brandy tones, and this medium to full bodied brew ends in a long bitter finish. Delicious.

Draft @ Founders (from notes). Pours a very lightly hazy orange amber color with a small white head. The aroma has moderately sweet caramel, citrus and floral hops, lighter notes of resin, wood and brandy. The flavor has a base that is caramel dipped bread that blends well with the citrus, spicy and resiny hops. Mild wood and brandy character actually helps pull everything together. Medium plus body and very easy to drink. The 11% remained mostly hidden except for the warming it created. bretupdegraff (242) - Fishers, Indiana, USA - JAN 13, 2011
Very hoppy aroma and taste with a lot of citrus - more of a bite than the regular DBL TRBL but that was expected. Very tasty JoeMcPhee (9426) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 10, 2011
Deep amber pour with a tight white head. The nose is intensely hoppy. Fresh and laden with grapefruit peel and a hint of lemon. Pine cones and a little bit of soft spiciness. There is a kiss of booziness that kind of accentuates the earthy hoppiness. Pine, light resin and a kiss of soft vineousness on the back. It seems more like a straight IIPA to me - but whatever it is, it’s good stuff. punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - JAN 7, 2011
Hazy yellow gold pour with a loose white head. Big, juicy, wet hop aroma with some creamy toffee, and brandy. The flavor is hop forward with lots of grapefruit and citrus upfront, some creamy toffe in the middle and strong, sweet vinous brandy and vanilla on the finish. The body is full and sticky with moderate carbonation. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - DEC 1, 2010
pours pale copper with a bit of rust coloring. Minimal head or lacing. Hoppy with citrus and earth. Not overpowering. Semi-sweet. A bit of the brnady comes through. Taste is initally a bit boozy. Behind is some sweet malt. Not too hoppy. The barrel-aging takes precedence. Mouthfeel is a bit boozy but with a nice sweet/bitter mix. Good drinkability and fairly unique.
