Draft at brewpub. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus, earthy hop, wood and alcohol aroma. Moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a moderate to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Moderate alcohol bite at the finish. Standout brew. Drake (13739) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 22, 2010
Served on draft at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy peach color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. The aroma is absolutely fantastic... I would still be there smelling it if there wasn’t a schedule to keep. The aroma is very hoppy with notes of stone fruits, citrus and a light bready note. The taste is brandy, big hops, citrus, caramel, stone fruits. Quite a bitter beer and damn good. j12601 (12000) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - AUG 10, 2010
On tap at Founders while in town for RBSG. Pours amber, almost clear, just a touch of haze, with a thin white head. Bit of wood on the nose, nice spicy hops, slight sweet aromas. Medium bodied, lightly sweet with a bit of alcohol peeking through. Lots of nice earthy hop flavors coming through, very juicy. Long lasting grapefruit and quinine bitterness and some warm long alcohol. deyholla (11605) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JUL 26, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Poured a hazy deep amber with a near white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had a nice cutting brandy note the melded well with the hops that presented a combination of citrus and pine. Flavor had brandy throughout with citrus in the beginning and transforming to more of a pine finish. Thought this was nice for a barrel aged IPA. hopscotch (11113) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 2, 2010
Draft… RBSG 2010… Mostly clear, sparkling amber/orange ale with a small, white head. The bouquet is a swirl of toffee, honey, caramel and citrus hops with hints of brandy and raw wood. Full-bodied and oily with stinging carbonation. Malty, vinous, boozy and bitter. Finishes moderately bitter and red hot – almost scorching. Quite warming and very nice!

Draft @ Founders (from notes). Pours a very lightly hazy orange amber color with a small white head. The aroma has moderately sweet caramel, citrus and floral hops, lighter notes of resin, wood and brandy. The flavor has a base that is caramel dipped bread that blends well with the citrus, spicy and resiny hops. Mild wood and brandy character actually helps pull everything together. Medium plus body and very easy to drink. The 11% remained mostly hidden except for the warming it created. KyotoLefty (10264) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 28, 2010
Draught at the brewery, RBSG 2010. Amazing and wonderful aroma of simcoe hops, huge fruits, orange, creamy vanilla, brandy. Simple adorable nose! Pretty orange color as well. Sweet flavor with honey and candied fruit, brandy. Huge bitterness kicks in at the finish. Relly interesting—smooth as honey water with amazing fruit. One of the biggest surprises of the gathering.

Deep amber pour with a tight white head. The nose is intensely hoppy. Fresh and laden with grapefruit peel and a hint of lemon. Pine cones and a little bit of soft spiciness. There is a kiss of booziness that kind of accentuates the earthy hoppiness. Pine, light resin and a kiss of soft vineousness on the back. It seems more like a straight IIPA to me - but whatever it is, it’s good stuff. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 9, 2010
On tap at Founders. Poured clear medium golden with a short, but sticky white head. The aroma opened with off-putting rubbing alcohol with sweet bready malts and a touch of honey beneath.. pine, earth, and black peppery hops rose with warmth.. this grew on me. The flavor found honey and bready malts at the core, along with a splash of mixed medium-skinned fruits.. peppery alcohol, spicy pine, and earthy bitterness surrounded.. finished warm with plenty of residual sugars and lesser spicy bitterness. Medium-plus bodied on the palate with rolling carbonation.. grainy at times.. near “4” for feel. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUL 23, 2010
Snifter on tap at the brewpub (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a nice glowing golden orange pour, good haze, really striking color. A small brighter white bubbly head dies to a film, laces the edges. Aromas are a healthy blast of citrusy and melon hops, florals and a pinch of pine mix with lemon and grapefuir, decent oaky vanilla tannins and a touch of boozy bourbon. Juicy. Initial mirrors this: juicy citrusy and melon hops, lemon and orange with grapefruit, melon, florals, a touch of piney resin moving into pale malts and biscuits, bread with a sweeter light brandy appeal, faint bourbon, smoothed out and a touch boozy. Really, a nice melange of juicy citrusy fruits, melon, a touch of acidic brandy and booziness, wet oak and vanilla. Very smoothed out. A top notch beer
