UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 Reviewed from notes (2009). A: A maple brown colored body... mostly brown but hints of rich reddish hues... minimal off white cap, little lacing. S: Overpowering blasts of maple syrup and booze... little else but some yeast and some dark cherries and molasses T: Wow, the flavors are intense here... but not in a particularly satisfying way... again this is straight up booze and syrup... a huge let down compared to what the maple syrup barrels were able to do with Canadian Breakfast Stout M: Smooth, medium body.. a bit of an aftertaste that holds a little too long.. good carbonation levels. O: If I wanted this much syrup in my beer, I would of just taken a regular brown ale and dumped a pitcher of syrup in it myself.

On tap at Founders in July 2009. Pours a deep brown with some rusty hues. A nice tan head and plenty of lacing as it goes down. Lots of maple syrup in the nose alongside sweet malt and a little bit of caramel. Hints of vanilla as well. The taste is much the same, with the maple really shining through and combining perfectly with some woody notes. The mouthfeel was full, smooth, silky, and absolutely amazing. Quite drinkable all around, and was a nice substitute for CBS when I was there. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-05-2009

This was a big hit among our group, beer and non-beer drinkers tonight. Apportioned with a dark brown body with a translucent melanoidin red underpinning, topped with a flush cream head. Deep brown malt aromas pour out of the glass, highly infused with maple essence. Delicious complexly malated body. Maple syrup and sherry notes delight the palate, but are harmonized with the malt back-bone. Well-balalanced to hold up the sweetness. Sherry-chocolate finish.

barrel aged on tap at ron’s a few weeks ago...pours a light chestnut brown color...lighter than i expected... and is fairly clear. poor retntion and lacing. aroma is very sweet! vanilla and oak notes with nutty malt. flavor is also sweet....slighty chalky and nutty flavor with vanilla and sweet maple. mouthfeel is also chalky and thin...almost watery. the first fouders brew that i didnt really enjoy at all.

Pours a deep dark chestnut brown color that is pretty much completely opaque, except for the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source and a one finger off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Very minimal spots of lacing. Bourbony chocolate malt aroma with a slight oaky presence as well as some vanilla bean, caramel, subtle dark fruit notes. More of a bourbon presence than I expected but I’m not picking up much maple. Subtle hints of butterscotch and toffee. Silk chocolate malty mouthfeel with a very smooth maple molasses feel. The bourbon notes from the aroma are present but not too hot. Vanilla bean, toffee, caramel and butterscotch flavors are detected as well. Very smooth with only a slight alcohol warmth in the finish but at 11% is pretty well masked. Toffee and dark fruit notes are there but very faint. Highly recommended!
