Pours a deep dark chestnut brown color that is pretty much completely opaque, except for the faintest of mahogany edges when held to a light source and a one finger off-white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Very minimal spots of lacing.
Bourbony chocolate malt aroma with a slight oaky presence as well as some vanilla bean, caramel, subtle dark fruit notes. More of a bourbon presence than I expected but I’m not picking up much maple. Subtle hints of butterscotch and toffee.
Silk chocolate malty mouthfeel with a very smooth maple molasses feel. The bourbon notes from the aroma are present but not too hot. Vanilla bean, toffee, caramel and butterscotch flavors are detected as well. Very smooth with only a slight alcohol warmth in the finish but at 11% is pretty well masked. Toffee and dark fruit notes are there but very faint. Highly recommended!

Tried this on tap at Union Jack’s , part of Founders Fest 2009.
The look was a very dark blackbrown, in that you could see some light passing thru at certain angles, but it was a very very dark color.
The smell was only slightly there, and what you had was definitely bourbony.
The taste and mouthfeel were very good. Had a whiskey front end, with a maple syrup back end.
Overall I couldn’t drink this everyday, but it was a nice treat. michael-pollack (4960) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 15, 2009
Draught at Capone’s: Aroma of maple syrup, vanilla, and a little brown sugar. Poured deep amber in color with a large, rocky, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Good lacing. Flavor is heavily sweet. Tastes of maple syrup, vanilla, and slight wood. Medium body. Dry texture. Average carbonation. Sweet, maple syrup and wood finish is dry. 10%ABV is totally hidden. Pours a hazy brown with a medium off
white creamy head. Aroma of brown sugar, nuts, maple syrup, oak and chocolate. Flavor of bourbon, vanilla, oak, maple, brown sugar, chocolate and notes. bdigital (659) - Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 29, 2009
Draft @ Founders: Very dark brown in color...small beige head. Heavy doses of maple, wood and vanilla compliment a nice roasted malt body. Sticky, full body...flavor was cloying and again really over-the-top in the maple category with some subtle vanilla and bourbon noted.

swish mountain brown ale aged in bourbon barrels...excellent tap at founders..pours medium brown with no head..aroma of bourbon, caramel, brown sugar, and faint hops...pretty much the same for the flavor, with added hints of caramelized sugar and syrup.low carbonation..figgy and similar to a quad almost..bizarre...thick palate Ibrew2or3 (9062) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - AUG 21, 2009
Big thanks to markwise for bringing down this brew from his trip up north. It pours clear amber with thin white head. The aroma is smooth oak and booze followed by a bit of nose searing heat. I also get softer notes of vanilla, caramel and more oak. The taste is smooth and rich with caramel, some sweet milk chocolate, syrupy molasses and some maltiness. It ends with me thinking this is a pretty sweet tasting brew. kiefdog (1827) - Tampa, Florida, USA - AUG 31, 2009
Hand bottle courtesy of markwise. Pours a dark cola brown with thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, smoke, oak, caramel, hints of ripe dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, molasses, smoke, chocolate. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing sweet malt finish. egajdzis (6969) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 21, 2009
[Draft @ Capones] Poured a dark brown color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of maple syrup, caramel malts, wood, and toast. Taste of sweeter maple syrup, vanilla, caramel, wood, bourbon, nuts, and alcohol in the finish. BillKismet (4218) - Seattle, Washington, USA - NOV 29, 2009
This was a big hit among our group, beer and non-beer drinkers tonight. Apportioned with a dark brown body with a translucent melanoidin red underpinning, topped with a flush cream head. Deep brown malt aromas pour out of the glass, highly infused with maple essence. Delicious complexly malated body. Maple syrup and sherry notes delight the palate, but are harmonized with the malt back-bone. Well-balalanced to hold up the sweetness. Sherry-chocolate finish.
