Poured dark brown color with medium frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted nutty malt and maple syrup aroma. Medium to full body with smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor and a medium sweet nutty finish of moderate duration.
Very good brew and went well with my reuben sandwich.
Sampled draft at the brewpub (Grand Rapids, MI). Pours a nicely hazed brown, a bit rusty, nice small offwhitehead that dissipates. Aromas are a nice sweet brown sugar, malt, touch nut, tobacco and light maple syrup.. Nice. Initial is nicely sweet, maple syrup and vanilla, a touch of brown sugar, light hoppy bitterness in the finish. Solid body, light enough to drink several but with enough body to really keep some good flavor and light sweet residual aftertaste. Quality brown ale, high ABV that hides well. Cheers! Tried it for the hell of it at Founders last night. Almost like drinking thin syrup. Almost overly sweet, which wasnt the case for the canadian breakfast stout. A small amount of alcohol detected, and a little pricey at 7.50/12oz. Fun to try, just dont think i’d do it again.

Pour at Founders Fest 2009. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a small beige fine froth. Cloying aroma of light maple syrup, vanilla, barrel, one-dimensional. Flavor follows, cloying, strong vanilla, some maple syrup stickiness, sweet and perfumy, just sugary with way too much barrel. This is a really rich dessert beer, packed with intriguing flavors. It tastes dominantly sweet and sugary loaded with maple syrup and vanilla. There are other flavors swirling around like nut, oak, caramel, and bourbon. Not something I could enjoy everyday, but worthy with the right dessert menu. On tap @ Founders. Pours a clear brown color, thin broken white head. Slight alcohol presence on the nose, syrupy sweet malt aroma. Taste is a bit too warm and definitely too sweet for my tastes.
