Pours black with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma with chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is chocolate with roasted malt and vanilla. slowrunner77 (13409) - Reno, Nevada, USA - JAN 26, 2018
Not bad, but was expecting more from this brewery, as they've nailed a few different dark beer styles in the past. Looks pretty, dark brown with creamy tan head. Nose is roasted malt, light dark chocolate. Flavor and body are thin, with an odd bitterness, heavily roasted despite the lightness. brokensail (16696) - Dublin, California, USA - NOV 9, 2017
On tap @ The Mallard Club. This one looks to be pretty much black. The head is a nice creamy off-white color and thick. Roasted malts, earthy hops, coffee, and dark chocolate are present as you might expect. Has a mild sweetness with a nutty and ashy bitterness on the back end. It's pretty nice. Founders is always good and this beer is no exception. The smell was faint and a little chocolatey. The appearance was a thick velvety brown black. The taste was magnificently smooth and decadent, like a smoosh of dark chocolate powder and coffee milk (rhode island style) with a truly luxurious mouthfeel. This one earned the non-trash water stamp of approval from my formerly stout hating better half. Good for middling on a night of beer reviews and classic rock and torturous hiccup activity topped off by a diffy peeps marathon. cmacklin (1418) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JUL 27, 2017
On tap. Pours an opaque black with a medium, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and oats with a mild, bitter coffee finish. Light to medium body with a creamy, smooth texture and soft carbonation. Tasty. Minus the nitro, this Oatmeal Stout drinks like a classic English Oatmeal Stout complete with rich flavors, a silky feel, and a modest ABV. Notes of chocolate, coffee, and cream. It’s a thing of beauty to watch it poured from the tap. Seeing the foam gradually give way to blackness is a damn hypnotic experience. This is a dark brew that won’t totally weigh you down on a hot day. psydtamales (82) - Anaheim, California, USA - JUN 5, 2017
Smooth, sweet, creamy, roasty, & kinda savory on the finish? Light notes of chocolate, easy to drink, solid. DSG (15519) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - MAY 30, 2017
