Nitro dispensed for an insanely cool cascade effect...brown and deep and dark. Head is huge and brown and foamy. Nose is completely hazlenut. First sip is beautiful, fluffy body is light and lively, creamy and full of hazlenut coffee creamer, almond and hints of bitterness. Rich maltiness is extremely satisfying as the beer warms. I usually complain about nitro dispensed beers, but this one completely rocks. Tingling bitterness at the finish with a dry coffee/hazlenut aftertaste. This place was great as well, cool bartender, cool locals and hip out-of-towners. Go try this before it’s gone! A wonderful stout! badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 24, 2004
had this at the harvest celebration...off the nitro and smooth and creamy as ever...very appealing appearance, and a wonderful hazelnut aroma....its flavor exactly complements its rich aroma....my second favorite founders only behind the breakfast stout...maybe could amp up the ABV and make something even better!!!!!!! but ill settle for this beer any day Silphium (3198) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - OCT 24, 2004
On tap at Founders for their 2004 Harvest Celebration. All I can say is WOW! Amazingly creamy and smooth with an awesome amaretto and hazelnut flavor offsetting the roasted malts. This beer reminded me of a fine hazelnut coffee with a dash of almond syrup yet had none of the acidity usually associated with coffee. At 4.2% ABV and on nitro tap this beer is supremely smooth. I sometimes have qualms about letting character not derived from hops, barley, and yeast skew my ratings, but this beer is just too good to ignore.
