Golden colored with a white head. Aroma is pale malt, citrus, grapefruit, light orange. Light bodied, drinkable, definitely not a textbook pilsner. Lacks the softness or the usual hop profile, but what’s here works.

Aroma similar to a fruity IPA, without the huge citrus flavor. Incredibly clean finish. Not exciting or special, but very drinkable

Bottle provided by Founders. The pour is a very bright gold, which, like any light lager, looks great under the summer sun. Just a little haze at first, and a foamy head that settles very quickly. The nose still seems to have some noble hop spice to it, but after a few sniffs, there’s the pine resin of those 3C hops. They don’t overpower, though. Just the American equivalent of a German Pilsener nose. The taste is where those American hops show up, with a big hit of pine resin up front, adding to its stated 45 IBU’s of hop bitterness. The malt is still light and crisp. The abv is 5.5%, so it’s not quite there as a session beer. I usually called light lagers bowling beers, but the extra hop in this makes it one of those camping beers; the kind of taste you want to bring on a long hike, and the reason small brewers started switching to lightweight cans in the first place.

Pours light gold and mostly clear with a foamy white head that sticks. Aroma is floral hops. Taste is hop forward with florals, pine and a grapefruit finish. Dry, crisp, clean but not your fathers pilsener. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, bb 2/18 apparently. Pale orange with a modest loose white head. 2 Aroma of mandarins, lemons and a little pineapple with hay and silage skulking underneath about to no particular effect. Not anything like clean with some boiled oranges and spicy pasture. Zesty citrus goes missing. Moderate but nagging bitterness. Not too flash.

Light lemon in the nose. Nice lemon flavor along with ending on a bitter hop bite.

Draft. Poured a clear pale color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate complex hop and malt aroma. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Well worth having.

DOC: 3/15/2017

2015 BJCP Category: 34C Experimental Style (base styles: 5D German Pils; 18B American Pale Ale)

AROMA: Strong citrusy hops (especially lemon) with a touch of rye-like spiciness. Base malt is nondescript with no sweet notes. Clean fermentation profile. 9/12

APPEARANCE: Banana yellow hue, slight haze but otherwise clear and effervescent. Small white foam mostly dissipates. No lacing. 2/3

FLAVOR: Quite hoppy throughout in terms of both flavor and bitterness. Strong lemon pith flavor at first followed by green tea at the apex and light pine flavor on the finish. Faint spicy sensation in the aftertaste. Malt base imparts no particular sweetness or distinctive flavors but offers balance. Adjuncts offer little to no flavor. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Light body; medium-high carbonation. Crisp and refreshing; very quaffable. Seems much lighter and more sessionable than 5.5% ABV. 4/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: This is essentially an APA done as a lager and it works well. I’d prefer a little more malt presence, but palette is enjoyable as is. 8/10

TOTAL SCORE: 38/50

Interesting this is listed as a pilsner by founders. but true it is a hoppy lager. Has a lasting head. And the nose remains with lots of hops. This truly is an impressive low gravity ipl. I enjoyed this. On draft. Mouthfeel is crisp and spot on for a pilsner. Nice
