COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Extremely dark body with a medium head. Creamy roasted malt body with dark, almost burnt coffee bean flavors, notes of chocolate, caramel and smoke, with a balanced, spicy hop finish that lingers long.

Bottled: 05/29/12. 12 oz bottle into a DFH signature glass. A - Pours a dark brown body, almost bordering on black. Not as dark or thick as a stout as some light gets through the edges. One finger light mocha head with excellent lacing and retention. S - The thing I thought of was...Founders Imperial Stout. It has an eerily similar nose, albeit a bit toned down. Rich and roasty malts which almost border on smoked, cocoa powder, and coffee beans. Excellent aroma. T - Roasty and slightly smoky malts, milk chocolate, and espresso beans. There is a bit of a piney hop presence given the 45 IBU’S, but the beer is a few months old so its mostly just present in a light bitterness. M - Silky and smooth, well carbonated. O - The imperial stout is a great beer, and this does come off as a lighter version of that beer. This is one of the of the best readily available shelf porters on the market!

A strong dark raw coffee bean aroma that is not over powering gorgeous black color with a thin light tan head. The founders porter has a great taste filled with coffee and a hint of chocolate. The coffee taste comes back in the finish. Overall, i am normally not a porter fan but because ive had some good recent porters i am becoming a fan.

12oz bottle-----> shaker. Pours super dark black with tiny tan head. Has faint aroma of coffee and caramel (aroma might be the weakest facet of this beer). Taste is nice bitter coffee and dark chocolate with a bit of licorice. Palate is typical thin porter. Overall- a great porter made by a great brewery.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2015 Very dark brown almost black. Very little carbonation what little there was was medium brown bubbles. Oily feel but also creamy. For the strength it has a lot of flavor. As stout as porters get before crossing into being a Stout. Well done. Serving: Bottle

Murrow (101) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - SEP 24, 2012
Bottled. Pours black with very nice light brown head. Nice combo of tart fruit and roasted malt on the nose. Strong chocolate and coffee flavor opens into a bit of fruitiness, with a smoky, malt finish. Rich mouthfeel, medium to full-bodied. Nice kick of alcohol throughout, especially in the finish. Nicely balanced, tasty porter.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a nice dark color with an off tan head that doesn’t last too long. Good aroma of roasted malt and chocolate with some hints of caramel and coffee. Taste is heavy with a nice mix of sweet and bitterness that lasts a while with seemingly dry finish. Body is medium overall and delicious. Would drink again.

Initially tasted very bright to me. Very dark yet has a surprising sweetness to it. Not overly bitter at all, and not as roasty as expected. Would drink again.

The beer is jet black, with a thick, beige head. A thick sheet of lacing coats the pint glass. No room for improvement here. The aroma...ahh. Roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. What a welcoming scent. The beer tastes fantastic as well. Teeming with flavor, this is one of the finest porters I have ever had. Chocolate and roast in beautiful harmony. The feel is medium to full bodied, and silky smooth. I highly recommend this beer. When it comes to stouts and porters, Founders Brewing Co. is simply world class. From notes: Poured an opaque deep brown-to-black with a small caramel-colored head. Caramelly, roasty aroma, perhaps a coffee note too. Full-bodied, with a slight thickness. Roasty coffee flavor with a slight anise note in the middle. Also picked up a nutty note, as well as a grainy note that reminded me of oatmeal. Very nice.
