COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. Its a lover, not a fighter.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2012 Pint pour In Urbana, IL. This is the best porter I can remember. It pours a pitch black and has a dark brown foam at top. It was like a rich, dark, slightly sweet beer version of Whoppers. Very smooth and filling.

This one was probably an aging bottle at Binnys, but still appeared to pour with good subtle carbonation and head. The malt profile was of the border between chocolate and coffee, with a balance of sprucelike hops. Nothing real un-expected here, but a good solid rich porter.

Deep dry chocolate malt with great subtle finish and nice after taste makes this porter a great choice.

Havent had a beer this good in a long time. Forgot how much I loved this style. A nice dark brown body, completely opaque. A nice tan to medium brown head the had good retention and nice lacing. Aroma had many complex layers. Smoke, chocolate, roasted coffee and hops. Smoke note pared well with both the chocolate and coffee notes and the slightly citrus hops was a nice surprise in the background. Flavor was velvety smooth nice a bittersweet chocolate flavor upfront. Coffee notes was an assertive bitterness that cut through the chocolates sweetness. Some smoke and slightly bitter hops in the finish. Very dry on the palate and the body certainly was full. You dont need a spoon but its close.

Bottle (in the category of Howd I miss this?"). Woody chocolate malt and hay aroma. Opaque black-brown color with small head. Sweet chocolate malt and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor. Delicious.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2015 Deeply dark beer with a foamy, off-tan head. No red hue on the edges, no light coming throughthis is almost stout territory. The aroma is enticing, with notes of dark chocolate and coffee; very grainy and crisp. The body is medium, carbonation is prickly, and the alcohol goes down unnoticed. The taste is great, with cocoa and coffee making big appearances, and subtle hops also showing up. This is a simple and straightforward porter that just works. Its incredibly drinkable and uncomplicated, but its also assertive and flavorful.

Bottle. Aroma is strong smoky cocoa w/ some anise and slight herbal notes. Really more like a stout that a porter. Black w/ with a beautiful inch of tan foam. Flavors of sweet cocoa balanced by deep, dark hops. A bit full bodied for a porter. Creamy soft mouth feel and a smooth slowly diminishing tail. Tastes like a stout w/o a heavy body. Truly delicious.
