COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

February 15, 2011. 12oz bottle courtesy of TomThompson, shared with blankboy and garthicus. A long-time "want’ of mine, huge props John, sorry my backlog made me take so long to get this entered. Thick looking black pour with a solid frothy light brown head. Terrific simple dry roast aroma, not at all sweet or syrupy, just the right amount of herbal bitterness, maybe a whiff of lactose sourness in there, but not off-putting at all. Taste - quintessential porter for me - solid mid-level roast, not sweet, very dry, crisp, well balanced against moderate alcohol, malt and bitterness - this one rides the center of the groove; coffee, nutshell - just right. Perfect mouthfeel, not thick or light, just a bit of acidity, appropriately light carbonation (I hate a fizzy porter), and a dry, nutty finish with an overlay of modest bitterness. Want more.

Nice dark smoked chocolate aroma. Really thick and rich and dark and malty with chocolate and coffee blend. Bitter ending. Good beer but not my favorite.

Dark brown colour with brown head. Roasted malts aroma. This is full of dark chocolate and coffee, so it’s more bitter than some other porters. Unique.

Pours a dark brown with little head. Some nice aromas right off the bat, roastiness and a bit of chocolate notes. Medium bodied porter that is very smooth and easy to drink. Pretty good option if you are a fan of porters.

Pours out very dark brown, little tan head. Smells of chocolate and roasted coffee. This beer is as smooth as they come. Every drink makes you want to take another bigger, longer one. This is by far the best porter I have ever had. Purely perfect.

A: Pours a very dark (not quite pitch black) reddish black color. There’s a one finger tan colored head, and it doesn’t have much retention, or lacing. Still looks nice, though. S: This has a lot of chocolate on the nose. There’s some roasty coffee as well, but it almost smells like a melted chocolate bar to me. T: There’s more coffee in the taste than there is on the nose; likewise, it isn’t as chocolaty as the nose would suggest. Lots of coffee (not too much), hints of smoke and chocolate, roastiness, and a hint of a hoppy finish. It does a good job of not being overtly vegetal in its texture (usually my least favorite part of a porter), and has some nice complexity to it, as well. M: Medium bodied, dry finish, low carbonation, smooth, hint of astringent coffee on the back end - basically, everything a good porter should feel like. O: All things told, it’s quite good. Not my absolute favorite dark beer of all time, but it’s an excellent choice in the future when I don’t feel like having a stout.

[Thanks to MatSciGuy]. 12fl. oz. bottle. Black colour wirth a moderate formation of a tan and creamy head, nice lacing and medium lasting. Aroma is toasty, strong dark coffee and slightly licorice. Flavour is toasty, roasty, ash could be present, wood and with a mild spicy flavour. The final is toasty with a decent duration in the aftertaste. Carbonation is medium. Body is medium to high. Texture is oily.

It poured a dark color with a tan head. The aroma was of roasted coffee and some cocoa. The taste was coffee and sweet malts at the start, with a bit of cocoa and cofee in the finish. A very good Porter.

Bottle. Pours very dark with a nice brown head. The smell is mostly that of malts. Taste is smooth with some chocolate and a lot of malt. Damn fine porter.
