COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pours silky black with a creamy tan head. The nose is sweet with strong chocolate and caramel malt presence. No absence of hops gives Founders’ robust porter the full flavor you deserve and expect. Cozy like velvet. It’s a lover, not a fighter.

Bottle. The pour was a pitch black with a slight ruby hue and an average sized (1-2 finger) medium brown creamy head that totally lasted throughout and produced excellent streaks of lacing. The aroma was of a roasted chocolate malts and a mildly sweet leathery yeast with notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, a bit of caramel and a touch of dark fruit. The taste was lightly sweet with a hint of chocolate and some dark fruit in the beginning and finished a nice bitter sweet with a healthy dose of coffee and a mild caramel sweetness at the end. The flavor lasted an average amount of time proceeding the swallow, with a mild bitter sweet coffee taste that was left to linger. Mouthfeel was just about full in body and absolutely creamy in texture with a soft carbonation. Overall an outstanding Porter. Not to surprising though, seems everything this brewer puts out is just incredible.

From bottle. Black with tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Heavy cocolate and coffee taste. Dry finish, well balanced. Delish.

Countbeer (6592) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - FEB 5, 2012
Bottle: A big and loud "shhhh" when opening the bottle. No gusher but and explosive vast but with holes/gates (like cheese holes) brown head. The glass is entirely filled with this brown foam. Just one small pour and the head explosively grows again! This foam/head changes really slow, leaves a complete black beer (again with each pour a huge head). Exciting! Smell coffee, roasted coffee, roasted malts, some dark chocolate, roasted barley, some smoke and tar. Good deep dark roasty smell. Yummi! Taste is really good roasty, deep, intense. Lovely roasted coffee, good bitter, roasted malts, roasted barleys, roasted herbs, dark chocolate, chocolate bitter, hop bitter, tar, burned wood/coal, hint of (bitter) liquorice. Very tasty, very balanced! Nice roasted, bitter and herby aftertaste. Low carbo, soft mouthfeel, full body and a airy/creamy texture. Absolutely worth it’s score this beer gets on ratebeer. Complexity of many of the regular imperial stouts. Supremely balanced and Delicious with a capital D!

On tap, shared with quiznoaz. Don’t get me wrong on this one. I like porters. Sometimes, but this was more of a smoked stout. Maybe. I really can’t make up my mind. But you don’t really care, do you?

Shared with Holy. Looks like a porter. Has a smoky flavor and bitter finish. More body than typical porters I’ve had. Not bad.

12oz bottle, bottled 11/08/11. Black color, thin tan head. Good lace. Pronounced, sharp carbonation. Very nice distinctly dark and supremely roasty finish. Some nice bitterness. Really nice to pair with my leftover Outback ribs. The carbonation is much more appreciated with a meal. Some chocolate aroma, here. Good amount of hoppiness, here. Nice dryness and drinkability. Really, a great porter. Rich is the key word here, although dark and sexy are appropriate as well.

Huge thick porter, dark brown with a beige head. Aroma has roasted fruirs and barley. Taste is thick with coffee and roasted fruits. It has smokiness and a little bitterness. Great finish.
