Founders is one of the best breweries there is and this one lives up to their reputation. Roasted caramel, coffee notes finished with a light chocolatey sweetness at the end. Pours dark but drinks light.
3 week old bottle > tulip
A: Pours pitch black like dirty motor oil and flat looking but does form a big brown head that retains for a few minutes and laces in sheets.
S: Dark chocolate and piney hops. A little cocoa powder and roast.
T: Sweet and chocolatey at first, followed by bitter and fruity hop notes and light roast grains that linger a bit. Ends somewhat dry and powdery.
M: Medium body with low level of smooth fine beaded carbonation. Slightly sticky finish.
O: Very nice even if not a favorite style. This is about as dark and strong as I have need for. Highly recommended. higgsbison (233) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 21, 2017
Very creamy and smooth. Full-bodied and Rich. chocolate, Carmel and black coffee notes. Good cold as well as warm. A nice hop balance particularly in the finish
This is a highly rated Porter. I should give it a second tasting

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2017 Couleur bien dark, petite mousse persistante. Stubby bottle from Prohibition Wines. Pours a dark, opaque brown/black with a dark tan head. Roasted malt aromas, and a taste of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla and cigar ash. Nicely bitter finish (45 IBUs!). Boozy taste and mouthfeel and very velvety. A first-class porter!

Pours black with a decent beige head. Aroma is coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is little sweet and medium bitter with notes of coffee, a little cocoa, pine and pineapple. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. The hops create a pleasing long finish but I would say that it's too prominent and takes away from the typical richness of the porter. Poured from its stubby bottle, this porter from Founders Brewing appears a thick, opaque dark brown-black, topped off with a thick layer of tan froth, which reeds quite quickly, to a thin brown ring, but leaving thick lacing on the glass when agitated later. The aroma is a mix of booziness - characteristic of dried fruits like cherries and raisins, and chocolates with roasted malts, which are mildly coffee-like in their aromas. Taste is a sweet mocha mix of coffee and chocolate, underlaid by roasted malts and nuts. This brew is creamy and smooth, its oiliness coating the mouth and lending weight to its already full-bodied feel. A favourite for a slow lazy sip!
