Tap at Capones. Pours a deep deep black with a smaller creamy deep tan head that laced. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, whiskey, chocolate and tobacco along with oak. Flavor of vanilla, chocolate ice cream, tobacco, oak, whiskey, nuts and dark chocolate. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - OCT 30, 2009
awesome beer...this place has perfected the porter renditions...pours black with tan head..aroma of sweet oak, chocolate, roasted malt, and bitter coffee..powerful flavor profile, dominated by dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and light whiskey...hints of caramel and vanilla here as well..great stuff barak316 (107) - Elyria, Ohio, USA - OCT 23, 2009
On tap at Rozi’s. Nice oak, coffee, caramel, chocolate, rye and whiskey balance. Did not have alot of expectations for this but was very pleasantly suprised. Very smooth finish. I love the opaque black coloring and the wonderful chocolate, coffee and malty aroma. fiver29 (1036) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - OCT 23, 2009
On tap at Rozi’s pours black with tan head. Aroma is coffee roast, oak, bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and cocoa. Opulent mouthfeel. Flavors follow the nose. The bourbon is not over the top. The barrel flavors play really well with the base beer and is really smooth. Easily one of the best beers out there. timsilvia32 (449) - from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - AUG 25, 2009
Tap at Founders. Snifter, nearly black pour, small light tan head. Roast coffee and malt aromas, fair amount of booze/barrel. Much going on in the flavor hear. Roasted malt, cocoa, peat backbone with caramel, vanilla, oak accenting. Near full, viscous body. Pleasant roast espresso finishing. A well made barrel aged brew from Founders.

Draft @ Founders...pour was dark black with no head. Nose was quite balanced with some vanilla bean, charred oak, rye, chocolate and a bit of espresso coming through. The barrel-aging didn’t seem to thin this out at all...flavors were all of the above mentioned. Great brew. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - AUG 14, 2009
On tap @ Founders. Black pour, rousing gives a short thick tan head. Light whiskey notes, cocoa, roast, chocolate on the aroma. Initially, the barrel hits the palate a bit hard, but as it warms it eventually blends in with the coffee and chocolate-like components. The alcohol and tannins still contribute but don’t overwhelm. An extremely well-balanced BA beer. punkrkr27 (903) - Berkley, Michigan, USA - AUG 12, 2009
On tap at Founders. Black pour with just a touch of tan head. Some sharp alcoholic whiskey on the nose with a nice dark roast and cocoa background. Lots of chocolate hits the tongue first followed by some medium roast, a touch of brown sugar, and a hit of peppery whiskey on the finish. Creamy, medium full body with prickly carbonation. mattmc1973 (479) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - AUG 10, 2009
On tap at the brewery. Deep brown/black with tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, oak, and faint whiskey. Taste of sweet malt, whiskey/bourbon, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Creamy, med-heavy mouthfeel. This one was delicious. Sammy (12610) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 7, 2009
Enjoyed immensely on tap at the brewpub. Dark body with some white head, ruby wine highlights. Lace down the sides. Wonderful rye whisky aroma. Above average mouthfeel, carbonation right there. Chocolately, woody, coconut.
