Draft to taster at Founders today. This batch is 6%. Looks solid; a fairly transparent brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells malty and mildy nutty and toasty. Tastes like it smells with a hint of coffee and caramel. Mouthfeel is medium light-bodied. Not bad. badnewsbeers (2312) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - JUN 24, 2009
reddish brown with medium head..aroma of toast, piney hops and grain..flavor is overly hoppy with earthy hops..finishes bitter like everything else..blah for founders Silphium (3198) - Traverse City, Michigan, USA - DEC 25, 2008
Slightly murky red-brown, thin buff head. Bitter, spicy hops nose with toast notes. Strong hops emphasis in the body (Amarillo, I think), with a spicy, herbal, grassy dryness backed by toast and brown sugar malt notes. Leafy, bitter finish. Reminds me of their Black Rye, but not as interesting.
