On tap at Founders. Pours black with tan head. Not much going on with the aroma, slightly roasty and bitter. Same goes for the taste. Watery with some roast and light bitterness.
Sampled on draft at the brewpub. Rating from notes. Pours a nice brownish black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, oreo cookies, dark chocolate and mild cocoa. Flavor is rich, lots of chocolate notes balances with bitter roast. Smooth, creamy texture, medium bodied. Finishes long and roasty. Nice beer. solidfunk (8943) - Washington D.C., Washington DC, USA - JAN 17, 2013
Pretty decent for style. Pours nice with carpet lacing and clody dark brown colour. Aromas of roast malt and a little nut. Medium carbonation ad palate. Taste slightly bitter with touch of floral sweetness on breath. On tap at brewpub. strongpieman (1651) - Mount Airy, Maryland, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Draft. Clear black with a tan head. Roasted malt, plenty of carbonation. All around okay but not my favorite at Founders. gvmdw7 (188) - California, USA - NOV 15, 2012
Poured dark brown with little head. Had some coffee tones. Tasted of caramel with an earthy finish. Had a muted bitterness.

Draft. Poured a clear black color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate toasted smooke malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted dark sweet flavor with a medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

On tap at Founders Brewery. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, peat, light coffee and nuts. Taste of dark malts, light chocolate, roasted barley with a chalky and astringent finish. crossovert (12911) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 2, 2012
Far too dark and blunt for the style. But it works as sort of a lager/porter hybrid. Not too bad.
