Draft at the 8th St. brewpub. Malt-heavy nose of biscuits, caramel, and pie dough with a touch of cinnamon and anise. Medium brown in color with amber highlights and a quickly dissipating head. The taste is rather delicate and features nutty malts, slight cola, flaky pastry and a brief wisp of earthy hops. Medium body with a down-soft texture and nutty finish. A solid, easy-drinking brown ale; I’m glad Four Peaks brewed this one again, though I still don’t understand why it was pulled from the main lineup years ago as I think it’s better than several of the brewery’s core and seasonal beers. Clear brown pour with a thin head. Light aroma of roasted toffee malt, coffee and a bit of hops. Sweet nutty flavor with a touch of bitter on the finish. Okay. User37895 (3042) - - APR 27, 2010
On draft at FP 8th St. The pour was typical dark brown with an offwhite head. Aroma was nutty and cocoa. Flavor followed and included a light residula sweetness and toastedness. Mouthfeel was on par. A decent shot at a style that has become boring. daknole (11044) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - APR 25, 2010
Brown pour. Light head. Light chocolate, malt and some roasted nuts. Flavor is funky and I will be damned, I DID taste some weird sucret flavor. Not great and not true to style. nbutler11 (1267) - Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - APR 22, 2010
On tap at the Tempe location. Pours black with an amber tint around the edges and a creamy beige head. Smells and tastes predominantly of malt, toffee, and faint cocoa. Finishes strange with sucrets and wood. Really doesn’t seem like a brown to me.

Sampled @ Scottsdale location. Nothing too interesting here...indistinguishable malt, caramel, coffee, and nuttiness in both the flavor and aroma. Medium to thin mouthfeel...great name, average beer. hellbilly (3249) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - JUN 23, 2008
growler to go from tempe... pours a dark ruby brown color with a big light khaki head. medium sweet caramel malt aroma with notes of coffee, smoke, toasted nuts and iced tea. there’s some very light cocoa in the flavor along with nuttiness, grain, grass, tingly hops and a dry finish. the palate is never as sweet as the aroma leads me to believe. medium body with a dry prickly mouth feel. it’s kinda boring but refreshing to drink a lot of on a hot day... turbo (1271) - Arizona, USA - FEB 9, 2007

A thin bodied brown ale with a light aroma and flavor of sweet roasty malt, nuts and caramel.
Nice, easy drinking beer.
Tap @ Tempe. Aroma was mainly a mild to medium sweet malt with some smokey and coffee aromas as well. Dark body with mahagany hue and thin head. Mild flavors of smoke, roast and bitterness. Body has a watered down presence and somewhat metalic flavor also. Intriging beer good mix of aromas and flavors. Smooth on the palate good ber to have with lunch. UPDATED: NOV 14, 2003 Excellent brown ale, with a full body, rich flavor, and a suttle after taste. It is not just a clever name.
