Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured deeper cola brown with just a swirly dusting of beige head. The aroma was sour with a balsamic character to it.. uh-oh!.. molasses, drawn caramel, and sweeter chocolates beneath.. some dry spicage too. The flavor also had sourness all over the place.. mostly molasses and caramel at the core.. touches of milk chocolate on the still sour finish.. no real bitterness to note. Brown. Medium palate. Dunkel is a very underrated style. This one had good dunkel qualities, even if it didn’t pull it off as good as some. Roasted malt, lager yeast. A little smoke. Dry.

Dark brown color, nearly black looking when set aside. Small bubbles form a thin lid and ring about the edge of the glass. Roasted malts dominate the aromas. Hints of dark fruit, coffee and raw grain (oatmeal?). Appropriate feel, fairly thin, but not watery. Only a hint of sweetness in the front, a bit of brown sugar. Mocha flavors dominate the middle and lead to the finish. Finish is rather dry with a bit of black malt. Linger is lightly astringent, assuming from the black malt. Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Fox River/Fratellos Appleton location. Pours a dark reddish brown brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves a spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some chocolate, roasted nuts and a hint of molasses. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malt, some flowery hops, some chocolate and dry herbs. Bottle sample at Skyview tasting. Very nice strong malt aroma. Flavor had a nice smoky flavor and was a littly woody on the finish. I wish the flavor would have lived up to the aroma.
