Thanks to Bob for the bottle! Poured deeper cola brown with just a swirly dusting of beige head. The aroma was sour with a balsamic character to it.. uh-oh!.. molasses, drawn caramel, and sweeter chocolates beneath.. some dry spicage too. The flavor also had sourness all over the place.. mostly molasses and caramel at the core.. touches of milk chocolate on the still sour finish.. no real bitterness to note. Light-medium bodied, again chock fulla sourness.. methinks there was a bottling infection. nuplastikk (6373) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 6, 2013
12oz bottle from the brewery. Ruby amber-brown color, steady thin beige head. Sweet, not so enjoyable aroma..cheap, extract. Medium bodied, sweet and sugary. Drinkable, but just barely so. Not really worth punishing yourself with. Slackin. JPDIPSO (6257) - Wauwatosa, USA - JAN 24, 2009
Dark brown color, nearly black looking when set aside. Small bubbles form a thin lid and ring about the edge of the glass. Roasted malts dominate the aromas. Hints of dark fruit, coffee and raw grain (oatmeal?). Appropriate feel, fairly thin, but not watery. Only a hint of sweetness in the front, a bit of brown sugar. Mocha flavors dominate the middle and lead to the finish. Finish is rather dry with a bit of black malt. Linger is lightly astringent, assuming from the black malt. A rather true to form dunkel. Brown. Medium palate. Dunkel is a very underrated style. This one had good dunkel qualities, even if it didn’t pull it off as good as some. Roasted malt, lager yeast. A little smoke. Dry. Skyview (6093) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - JAN 12, 2009
Picked up a single 12-oz bottle from Fox River/Fratellos Appleton location. Pours a dark reddish brown brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves a spotty lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some chocolate, roasted nuts and a hint of molasses. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of toasted dark malt, some flowery hops, some chocolate and dry herbs. Finish has a nice balance of mild bitterness and toasted dark malt aftertaste.

MN Ratebeer Winter Gathering, January 10, 2009. Courtesy of Skyview. Dark brown color with no head. Light aroma of chocolate malt. Lots of roasted and black malt flavor. A pinch unusual for a dunkel, but pretty good. esjaygee (3904) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 10, 2008
On tap at Fratellos Oshkosh. Reddish brown with a thin white slowly dissipating head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, molasses. Taste of sweet malt, molasses with some mild bittering hops on the back end. Smooth and creamy, decent Dunkel. arkurzynski (2446) - Combined Locks, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 14, 2012
Deep brown pour. Soft roast malt with some caramel and other sweet malt. Flavor is rounded caramel, with light toasted malt and a slightly bitter, gentle roasted malt finish. Some black olive. Medium palate. An above average dunkel. phishpond417 (2088) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Probably my favorite out of all the Fox River beers. Still on the lighter side, which was the common theme behind their beer. Medium bodied pours a clear brown colour with a small head. Aroma is nutty, sweet chocolate malt flavors and a creamy finish. DalzAle (2038) - Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA - JAN 11, 2009
Bottle sample at Skyview tasting. Very nice strong malt aroma. Flavor had a nice smoky flavor and was a littly woody on the finish. I wish the flavor would have lived up to the aroma.
