3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours an opaque black with a thin quickly disappearing head. Nose is coffee and licorice. Nice mouthfeel- fairly thick viscosity and creamy. Taste is very good - a nice flavor of dark roasted malt, coffee, licorice and a slight hop note on the finish. A very good example of the style. Pairs well with brats off the grill, especially on football weekends.
Draught at the Appleton pub. Pours a not opaque brown with some reddish brown hues and a thin film off light tan head. Aroma is faint and flavor is a light dry roast with some faint chocolate hints. I’ve had worse. That1Guy (2236) - Colorado, USA - OCT 21, 2008
Crushed with Flobra. Not much nose followed by a very sour flavor. Don’t know what happened with this one. Called a porter but should be classified as ’It sucks.’ MIBRomeo (2570) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 10, 2008
dark brown pour small bubbled off white head, avg lace. Very light aroma some caramels touch of coffee. Avg pal. Flavor is lightly smoky has a nice coffee back with a light chocolate giving way to a clean lightly hopped finish unfortunatley a little piece of stale grain can come through at times detracting from an otherwise very nice beer. Pretty good. Skyview (6056) - Papoose Jct, Minnesota, USA - DEC 27, 2007
On draught at only the Fratello’s Green Bay location.

Pours a clear cola dark brown brew with an off-white head that quickly dissipates to a fine film and white ring. Aroma of light black malt, some coffee and dark chocolate. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of dark toasted black malt, some coffee and chocolate character with a touch of flowery hops. Finish is slightly metallic with a dark toasted malt aftertaste. I believe the Appleton brewery location brewed this one.
On tap at Fratello’s in GB. Smelled like merlot and tasted like the combination of merlot and cofee. I thought it was a excellent dinner beer and had a rich feel to it. Overall a good porter with a different taste. brewblackhole (1588) - Muskego, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 15, 2005
The best brew sampled here. Coffee notes in the aroma, a smooth malt chocolate coffee taste, problay the best because it had some body, compared to the rest JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - JUL 13, 2005
Dark brown color with a modest beige head. Mocha aromas. Dark chocolate, vanilla and peat flavors. Quite dry. DavidP (1748) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 27, 2005
On tap at the Appleton location. Very dark brown body under a foamy tan head. Tastes like a chocolately dry stout. Dark, dry roasted black malt with semi-sweet chocolate as a buffer. Low-profile target-y hops. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation, a bit fizzy for my tastes. Dry chocolate and coffee bean ground in the aroma along with the basic hops. Bit of an old ale tartness in the finish but that could be attributed to the roasted malt. I had rating this stuff to style when I realized it didn’t matter - it’s a tasty beer! robertsreality (2460) - Minnesota, USA - MAY 4, 2005
Black Coloring with Tan Ring. Burnt Coffee Aroma. Coffee Notes...Alongside Malty Flavors as Well. Quite Dry...Watery Overall and in Kind, a Session Porter.
