Outstanding example of what an Irish red ale should be. Bursting with malt and caramel . For a beer of such % the flavor is excellent. Even tho they brewed this for many years its the first time they bottled it. Got mine in Bradleys north main street cork.

this is a well balanced ale.very clear with a hint of caramel in the after taste. I would say the best Irish red ale on the market. Had it in the bull and castle under the name of castle red. Barman said they only name it differently in this bar and is known as rebel red everywhere else. i did read however that they will be exporting it shortly to Amercia where it will be rebranded as franciscan red. something to do with another brewery having the rights to the name rebel.

Tap at Kellys Bar in Cobh, Ireland. Pours dark and ruddy, but very clear. Not real. ;( Aroma is malty, and floral. Med body. Flavor is malty, but theres floral and even a bit of spice to help out. Smithwicks sorta kinda. Enjoyable in the land of Guinness.

From keg at the Murderers in Norwich. Thanks to Grumbo and the Danes for the share. Dark amber coloured body. Filmy layer. spotty lacing. Bread and brown malty nose. Toffee added by moments of herbal hops to the taste buds. Semi-sweet ending. Rather thin on the swallow. So and so (Shared with Cunningham, 18.02.2017).

Keg at the Murderers, Norwich. Pours amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, corn and vegetable. Quite heavy sweetness and light bitterness. Medium body and sticky texture, above average carbonation. Not for me this one.

Draught at pub in Strandhill Ireland. A confused beer, parts are nice but the whole seems disjointed. Incredibly light and drinkable but also with a misplaced bitterness.
