Zlotta (2779) - Hagen, GERMANY - FEB 11, 2017
Sampled from tap at a restaurant. Clear, dark copper with a medium large, foamy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, malty, slightly grassy-spicy aroma of caramel, nuts and some spicy hops. Sweetish, malty, slightly roasty, a bit fruity-spicy taste of caramel, nuts, chocolate and spicy hops, followed by a short, moderately grassy-bitter, quite roasty finish. Over medium-bodied, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite tasty actually, probably much better from tap than from bottle though.

First time drinking an Altbier: nice combination of a classic pilsener taste with more body, more sweetness and a touch of spices. Malty, sweet, caramel, a bit spices and a hint of coffee/cocoa(?) The aftertaste is quite bitter and hoppy. Good combination and easy to drink.

Bottle 3 cl. Pours a hazy amber with a medium off-white head and an aroma of roasted malts, bitter hops, toffeem and fish. The taste is slightly sweet with more hoppy and earthy complexities. Kind of nice.

Pours a brilliant hazelnut brown color with a big, froth, white head, which coats the glass the entire time. Smells of toasted rustic bread, a lactic tartness and sweet toffee malts creating a nice harmony on the nose. Drinks soft and light with a pleasantly effervescent finish. Tastes of toasty malts from the very beginning with lots of accompanying whole grain bread crust and a subtle toffee note. Sweeter during the midpalate with a glazed caramel peak, toned down by earth, bakers chocolate and a whiff of leaves. Finishes chocolaty wirh a pleasant dry note, together with earthen malts and an aqueous softness, after the effervescence has left the palate. Very nice, heavily relying on the malts, while producing a surprisongly unique, harmonious and intriguing flavor profile.

Prezent od Kuby. Bardzo fajne, złożone, a przy tym lekkie piwo. Karmelowe, podpiekane i nieco orzechowe. Zbudowała się potężna i trwała piana. Spoko.
