With the high quality of beers I’ve had from the Frankenmuth area, I was quite frankly disappointed with this. The aroma and appearance were OK at best, but the only flavor I got was burnt grain/strong coffee with a thin, watery mouthfeel. For flavors like that, I’ll stick to more nuanced and complex stouts that have a heavier feel on the tongue. Note: since Local Color closed, this beer is now brewed by Michigan Brewing Co. in Webberville. biggenius29 (155) - Hamilton, Michigan, USA - SEP 25, 2007
12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass. Pours dark brown, almost black with a average size light brown fizzy head that shrinks a little but leaving fair lacing. The aroma is of molasses also with a metallic aroma. Taking a drink the flavor is of molasses up front, followed by a slight metallic taste which leads up to a slightly bitter finish in the end. The body is light to medium with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall I am not to impressed. The flavor is real nice, but once you get the metallic finish it is not to enjoyable. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 24, 2011
bottle shared by murphym - dark brown/ black pour, no head. Some grany notes, light roasty chocolate, tingly carbonation with some sweet syrup. A little fake tasting and thin body. meh. Styles (2016) - Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA - JUL 5, 2005
Tap: world beer expo/Frankenmuth. Dark transparent brown with decent head. Aroma has some sweet malt/lager but very muted. Flavor is all sour skunk. 11026 (1772) - Alabama, USA - MAY 25, 2005
Tap at fest. Deep brown in color, fairly clear. Decent white head for a small pour. Coffee flavors with a touch of sweetness. Aroma is malty with a touch of caramel and coffee. Later on the flavor takes a lightly sour flavor which isn’t really desireable.
