3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I had a 4oz sample of this beer at the 2012 Frederick Beer Festival. The beer had a cloudy, dark amber color with some sediment and a creamy dark tan head with average retention, but good lacing and cling. The aroma was very malty with notes of caramel, and also a modest scent of hops. The taste was pretty sweet and malty with flavors of caramel but a slight grainy bitterness was present too. The beer was wet and watery with average carbonation a smooth body and a full mouthfeel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft on 05/04/12. Came to the table a hazy amber/mahogany color with a smallish antique white head. There was an interesting rich and malty aroma of caramel, cocoa, roasted coffee, some estery notes, and some citrus fruits & rinds in the background. Went down medium-bodied. There was plenty of caramel, toasted bread, roasted coffee, and some cocoa upfront taste-wise. There was an estery dark fruity quality in the middle. Things finished with some bitter citrus rinds and a splash of lemon. Tasty.
