I had a 4oz sample of this beer at the 2012 Frederick Beer Festival. The beer had a dark bronze color with a dark amber hue, and a decent-sized creamy tan head with average retention, but good lacing and cling. The aroma featured fruity and floral notes with some earthy grain, and a bit of candy and yeast. It had a sweet fruity and malty taste with some caramel and candy flavors. Slightly sour aroma. Mid brown coloured initially a little sweet and rich on the palate with a hint of bitterness in a lasting malt finish.

Sampler at brewpub. Pours very dark brown with small tan head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, bready malts, and some booze. Flavors of sweet caramel, dark bready malts, raisins, and a ton of booze. Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a small froth of light tan head. Has a sweet raisin dark caramel and molasses nose with some biscuity yeasty notes. Starts with a rich dark caramel and brown sugar sweetness with some authentic yeasty complexity before a slightly drier but still sweet finish. Draft. Served in a tulip glass. Arrived at the table a murky plum color with a skim of a tan head. Plums, caramel, red apples, and candied sugar in the fairly subdued aroma. Goes down medium-bodied. Kinda thin for the style. Sweet upfront taste-wise with a good deal of caramel, candied sugar, and plums. Some light spiciness and pears follow. Dark fruits finish things off with a touch of tangy/sour cherries at the end. There is some alcohol warmth throughout, but nowhere near the level expected from the 10.2% ABV. Enjoyable.
