Tap @ Free State. Copper color, lacey tan head. Nice munich and pale malt flavors. Nutty, musty, and caramel. Aroma has a nice nutty caramel note. Finishes with an earthy, woody hop. Clean, crisp, smooth Amber beer. phishpond417 (2088) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 5, 2009
Given to me from Dansting, Caddylac, TimmyK and the crew from Kansas- Thanks boys!!
Pours a dark brown colour with a very small head. Aroma is nice, plenty of nutty character, some caramel and roasted malt. Flavour was incredible smooth and biscuity. Thought it might be a heavier amber first, but now by the description it makes sense that it’s more of an Alt. Rich and balanced, soft little hop finish. Nice beer! drowland (8629) - Georgia, USA - AUG 5, 2009
Had on tap at the brewpub while visiting the university. Easy and drinkable, and not bad on the style mark. kosko20 (352) - Bemidji, Minnesota, USA - JUN 4, 2009
Solid brew that is more like an American Pale Ale. Caramel, toffee and bready malt notes with a nice fruity hop aroma. Flavor is sweet up front and finishes bitter. Medium body, nice and creamy.

On tap at Free State during the 20th anniversary. Pours a clear and see through copper red body with an average sized, smooth looking, off-white head that dissipated slowly and remained nicely laced. Aroma is a caramel-rose maltiness. Flowery smoothness with a biscuity smell as well. A bit of earthy molasses in there too. Flavor is malty. More of that biscuit malt and molasses taste. Light amount of bitterness and a creamy nuttiness. Slightly citrus in the aftertaste, but mainly a hazelnutty linger. More and more hazelnut flavor is coming through as this warms up too. Palate is medium bodied and exceptionally smooth. Very clean throughout with a nice balance of flavor. Overall, not the most flavorful or complex beer out there, but a very nice tasting beer for the style. Great balance from beginning to end as well. Another impressive brew from Free State. Growler courtesy of theisti, Pours mahogany with a thin but determined withe head. Smells of caramel, light spice, roses, some sugary hints, earthy. Tastes of spice, pepper, earthy, tea, some citrus, caramel. Finishes with a light earthiness. Enjoyable session beer. iowaherkeye (2703) - Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, USA - DEC 5, 2007
On tap at the brewpub, 02/01/07. Clear ruby brown with a one finger creamy beige head, good retention. Aroma of toast and woody hops, also a bit of molasses. Flabor added biscuity malts, a bit of brown sugar, and some light bitterness--well-balanced. Light to medium body with light spritzy carbonation. Good session beer.
