COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Ale is the first brewed in Kansas since the pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra" comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars Through Difficulties". We’ve blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and we’ve chosen Northern Brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

12floz bottle with a BBD 05.31.2017 imprinted on the neck. Looks about as amazing as a beer can get. A one-finger head settles to a frothy half-finger leaving webs as the dark-copper body lowers with each drink. Smells good too, consisting of toasted caramel and mossy earthiness. This is carries through in the easy going palate. An excellent American altbier/amber ale as it is a very well composed malt centric ale.

From a bottle into pint glass. Amber color, big beige head. Mostly molasses on the nose. sweet, well balanced, medium carbonation. Solid satiated, solid beer.

I get it, there’s lots of American Amber Ales out there, but to my mind, Ad Astra is underrated. Deep amber pour with a light brown head and lacing. Biscuit and toffee aromas from the toasted malt. Flavor goes with what you smell. You also get some caramel. Tea and apricot hop flourishes, too. The hops are present, but the bitterness is kept low. Smooth and partially creamy mouthfeel. A paradigm-shifter? No. A tasty beer? Absolutely.

Pretty good Amber. Malt, caramel, toffee, biscuit, some fruitiness. Down the middle of the plate.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2016 APPEARANCE- Dark amber color, in the darker range for an Amber ale, which like. Head is nice, and laces well. FLAVOR- clean drinking ale flavor. Very little hop is evident (bittering or aroma).NOTES-This one surprised me a bit. It?s better than I anticipated.

shigadeyo (3730) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAR 31, 2016
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2016 Weird mineral, slightly astringent aroma with some Sugar Daddy caramel lurking within; amber color, pale beige crown; toffee and caramel, brown sugar, fruity/berry quality in the middle, dried dates and other fruits; earthy bitterness in the finish, balanced overall; light medium body, ample carbonation; tastes far better than it smells, solid amber ale.

Pours an amber brown color with a khaki head. Caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast and light fruit aroma. Caramel, toffee, biscuit, toast, floral, slight fruit and nut flavor with a bit of astringency. Medium light body and medium carbonation. Astringent caramel finish.

A really well done amber, probably too malty for some, but I thought the balance was perfect. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. Dark, clear, ruby-brown, with a small, foamy, tan head. The nose is light chocolate, figs, toast, toffee, and a bit of rye. Sweet, with a touch of dark sourness and some savory spice. Medium body, silky, chalky, and a little clingy. This is a solid, malty, and surprisingly complex beer.

skmikeg (1826) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 4, 2015
Pours medium brown with a one finger tan head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malts, caramel sweet malts, grassy hops, earthy hops, and some light toffee. Taste is about the same as the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a slightly bitter, semi watery, medium-short finish. Overall, a decently tasty brown ale that is pretty drinkable.
