While walking through a field and enjoying a lazy summer evening, our head brewer Steve stepped on a stick that popped up and nicked his leg. Or so he thought, until he found two puncture marks on his ankle. The copperhead bite may have caused a trip to the hospital for Steve, but it also provided just the inspiration he and Chuck needed to name their new beer yep, one lowly snake in the grass is the namesake of one of our most popular beers.

12oz bottle 8/7/12 (Cellar Rat-MCI)-Pours an amberish copper with a small off white head. Aroma of hops and malt. Taste of the same with more hops and some caramel. This medium bodied brew is pretty darn tasty.

Rating from old records. From bottle in a shaker. Pours amber with citrus and pine hops on the nose. A bit of caramel from the malt works well with the hops. A nice APA.

Copperhead Pale Ale has become one of Free States best-known brews, so its probably good that the Copperhead this beer is named after chose Free State brewmaster Steve Bradt as its prey. Copperhead has a lovely amber shade and cream-colored head. Berry, spice, grass, chocolate, and toffee aromas. The flavor offers a lot of layers with caramel and bread tastes within the malt and hop characteristics redolent of citrus, herbal tea, and cannabis. Feel is creamy, medium-bodied, and pretty bitter. All in all, its lucky that Bradt came into contact with that fateful pit viper. Its also lucky that - you know- it didnt kill him.

Robe ambre lgrement opaque. Peu de mousse. Armes toasts, lgrement mtalliques. Trs rsineuse, amertume marque mais les saveurs agrumes du houblon sont trs faibles. Plutt aqueuse, moyennement longue en bouche. Une pale ale mdiocre.

Pint on tap. Lightly hazy darkish copper with some lasting spots of foam. Nose is toffee, resin, citrus and toast. Flavors the same but with more punch. Light-medium bodied with medium carbonation and pretty sessionable.

Copper pour. Small off-white head. Nose is toasty malt, earthy hops, burnt sugar. Burnt-toast malty profile, slight sweetness, earthy and piney hops. Medium body. Resin and bready malt in the finish. Not a terrible beer, but I liked the aftertaste better than the beer itself.

On tap. Pours amber with a small white head. Aroma is of wheat, pine, and very muted hops. Taste is of wheat, very light hops, and malt. The hops are very muted. Has a slightly earthy taste to it. Mouthfeel is crisp and carbonated. Body is thin. I do not like this one.

Bottle: Bubbly amber, with a small off-white head. Orange, bready malt aroma. Caramel, bitter citrus-peel taste. Metallic, dull, stale..... Not pleasant.
