Aroma is rye lactic lemon vanilla caramel. Really unique and crazy. Reddish brown with beige head. Taste is sour vanilla lemon. Palate is tart and lemon. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - FEB 22, 2013
Pours a hazy golden orange with a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of oak, vanilla, sour tropical fruit notes. Flavor of lots of oak and vanilla, lightly sour notes, tropical fruits and pineapple. ads135 (4607) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - DEC 13, 2012
It was pretty chaotic trying to get this bottle on 12/12/12 @ 12:12 pm....but worth it. Apparently this was barrel aged, but I couldn’t really tell in the flavor or aroma. Still, its exciting to get a sour ale in Lawrence. As far as I know, this is the first. Cloudy brown with what looks like sediment. Actually, looks and smells a bit like vomit and sweaty horse blanket. Delicious vomit and horse blanket. Not the best sour I’ve ever had, but easily one of the most interesting beers brewed at Free State. beastiefan2k (3981) - HdG (past: NYC, KS, Rain City), Maryland, USA - MAR 5, 2012
Snifter pour at the brewpub comes to the table with a small head atop a dark ruby red body, its too dark to see through. Aroma is musty, musky , cherries and rotten apples with a mild acetic quality. Has a good cherry pit character . Mouthfeel is light with low carbonation. Flavor is tart cherry juice and much lower on the rotten apple character. It is drying and sour in the aftertaste, definitely strong cherry sourness but with wimpy body and mouthfeel. The best sour beer made in Kansas, that is for sure.
