COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First the name - Hop Jacks (or Hop Backs as they are also called) are pieces of traditional brewing equipment that are used to add fresh hop flavors and aromas to the hot wort as it is transferred from the brew kettle to the heat exchanger. Fresh hop flowers would be placed in the Hop Jack for the very freshest hop character. Though hop jacks are still in use, they are not in use here. However, the results achieved with this beer are similar and represent the kind of hop character that is achieved using a Hop Jack.

This beer is one of a series that will showcase the diversity of hop varieties available to us. Each batch of Hop Jack Ale will have the same malt recipe but will differ in the hops used. The ibu's will remain the same also, allowing the drinker to appreciate the differences between hop varieties. The malt profile for this beer is very simple, using only pale ale malt and a very light caramel malt. We will make this beer in 1/2 size batches so expect it to move quickly. Served unfiltered. Stop in and see what hop we used this time!

Growler thanks to csbosox: Pours a hazy copper orange with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh citrusy grapefruity hops and some semi-sweet pale malt. Body starts with a nice mild sweetness and good fresh citrusy hoppy balance before a crisp, bittersweet finish. A very drinkable and well-flavored APA. Thanks Chris!

At the brewpub ... Yellow-orange and hazy. Little sticky head. Very nice grapefruity hoppiness on a well balanced beer. I really enjoyed this one.

Pint on tap. Mostly clear orange-copper with a lasting film of bubbles. Nose is resin, green herb and orange. Tastes the same with some metallic notes. Light-medium body has medium carbonation and a decent balance.

Growler purchased on Dec. 6, 2008 and drank two days later. The body is cloudy medium gold with a long lasting bright white head. The aroma is nice grapefruit and fresh baked bread. There is also some good fresh cut green wood. The taste is medium orange peels and grass. There is also some Russet potato skin. Overall, this is a very solid, highly hopped APA. Nicely done.

Very good pale ale. I wish this was available more often. Pungent hop aroma. Pours golden yellow. Tangy and delightful.
