COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Full body and a well rounded flavor comes from a foundation of nine different grains. The oats add a special silky texture that complements the roasted malts. The rich malty flavor is spiced with plenty of Northern Brewer and Fuggles hops for balance.

nuplastikk (6471) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 6, 2017
12oz bottle. Brown black body. Thin, fading beige head. Creamy..almost drinks like an English Porter. Classic, no gimmicks...pretty refreshing in that regard. It does indeed have a well rounded flavor. Mild coffee and chocolate notes. Solid offering.

magsinva (1444) - Virginia, USA - AUG 26, 2017
Draft @ Free State - Pours pitch with a tan head. Nice silkiness (would have been even better on nitro) chocolate malty notes, some bittersweet notes. It’s solid, but a little boring

Sampler at brewpub. Pours Coca-Cola brown with a khaki head. Leaves trace lacing in the glass. Lots of roasted malt notes on the nose. Has some chocolate action on the tongue with some solid bitterness on the finish. Solidly good.

I’ve had this before in bottle and on draft, this is from a 12floz bottle (BBD: 05.19.2017) that I paid a $1.50 unit price. Poured into a nonic glass, and small light-brown head sits atop a very dark-brown colored body. Smell is good like a cold brewed coffee. Palate is medium, dry, and has a hollow quality. Moderately sharp roasted malts creates the sense of drinking gardening soil. Overall it’s pretty good.

12 oz bottle. BB 11 wk 3. (MDL Wine & Spirits) Overland Park, KS.

Dark reddish brown color with a small tan head.
Roasted malt, sweetness, mild vegetables and licorice in the aroma.
The flavor is roasted malt, licorice, brown sugar and mild hops.
Brown ale... is it?

APPEARANCE- pours nice an black, looks fairly tin, the head is thin with fine-ish bubbles but laces really nicely.
NOSE- slightest hint of roastiness.
FLAVOR- clean with light body. Slight bit of roasty malts in the flavor too. Nice long deep flavors, almost char, that stays in my mouth for quite a while after the sip. The palate may be the high point for this beer.

4.2
MetalNHopHead (2214) - Lincoln, Nebraska, USA - MAR 6, 2016
Free State Oatmeal Stout: a part of this complete breakfast, at least according to my Sunday ritual. Damn me if it wasn’t the best part of it. This Oatmeal Stout pours a very dark brown with a cream-colored head. Aroma of cocoa, licorice, cream, and toasted barley. Flavor had more of the same with some subtle coffee and a slightly bitter finish from the hops. Not the richest Oatmeal Stout in the world, but an exquisitely balanced one.
