4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
64oz growler from RobertDale. thanks, Bob! pours a deep, dark brown that sits black in glass with just a razor thin ring of lace atop the edges. i was a bit put off by the aroma initially but as it warms notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, brownies, and molasses emerge with hints of smoke, wood, and bourbon coming late. flavor is great with heavy dark chocolate, cookie batter, molasses, graham crackers, and dark fruits backed by bourbon soaked fruits, ash, toffee, and earth. palate is a bit thin for an imperial stout of this magnitude with little to no carbonation and a dry, roated, cocoa finish. overall, a very tasty imperial stout but not a world beater that i expected. maybe this growler is a bit off, who knows.

2013 22-oz. bottle. Solid nose of charred oak, molasses, mild bourbon, and heavy milk chocolate. Pours flat dark brown. Nice, balanced taste of whiskey (solid heat to start), cocoa, oak, light vanilla, a touch of raisin, and some tobacco. The alcohol burn increases as the beer warms but never hits overpowering levels. Medium body with a slightly prickly texture. A delicious top-drawer barrel-aged stout. Prufrockstar (2132) - Moscow, Idaho, USA - MAR 22, 2015
Bottle shared by Eugene as part of a blind BA imperial stout tasting. Dark reddish brown pour was the lightest of the bunch. Nose brings chocolate, vanilla, touch of oak, and with perceptable alcohol. Some oxidation, more chocolate than roast, but pretty much right at the center of the flavor profile I’d expect from an imperial stout + barrel. Just doesn’t really gel for me the way I’d expect -- like all the parts are nicely there, but somehow the sum is less. Wish there was still some left this morning for me to give it another shot, though. djd07 (15292) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 9, 2015
Growler during RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours a very dark brown with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is roasted malts, cocoa, and booze. Thick mouth, strong roasted malt, cocoa, coffee bean, nice booze presence, really enjoyed this one. GRM (4108) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 29, 2015
