I think I actually prefer this to Duvel. Free State does Belgians well, always improvising, often accentuating the hop character of its brews. This one is no different. One of a series of Belgian inspired beers that never cease to impress. Light, crispy, a bit oily. Hops tickle the throat. Doppelganger (1388) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - MAY 3, 2009
Rose/copper, clean white head. Bubble gum and blackberry nose. Rather heavy on the fruit, almost sticky up front. Very fine leathery plum flavor, a little overpowering at first but then finding its feet nicely. Good firm hops, subtle bubble gum exhale. A really nice full-flavored beer, though a little less elegant and delicate than the Duvel it is modeled after.
