COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named for Samuel Perry Dinsmore, founder/builder of the Garden of Eden in Lucas, KS, now celebrating its 100th Anniversary. Made primarily with Scottish Golden Promise pale ale malt which has a wonderfully nutty malt flavor, accented by just a touch of Scottish peated malt (like they use for making Scotch Whisky) and some roasted barley for color. The malt character is the dominant flavor with Warrior and Fuggle hops providing a gentle balance. For more on S.P. Dinsmore, go to The Garden of Eden’s web-site.

On tap @ Free State. Malty with light peat and rauchmalz as well as some smokey phenols. Nice mouthfeel. Taste is malty with caramel, smoke, light peat, some higher alcohols, maybe iodine? Enjoyable.

Growler shared by Eugene. Really peaty aroma with big malt. Smooth body, nice carbonation. A bit metallic. Lightly brown, filtered pour. Pretty nice. I like the peat.

Growler thanks beastiefan2k: Brown pour with an off white film. Fairly sweet aroma, yets there’s evident smokiness. Smooth body with a nice smokey malt taste. Not very earthy or peaty, but the smoke is prominent. A decent Scotch Ale.

Growler, thanks to beastiefan2k. Very light aroma for me. Taste is not bad, balanced malts with some sweetness. Some mellow smoke with some fig or other dark fruit. Fades fast with each sip.

Growler from brewpub dragged from KS to NY for a gathering, spent less than 24 hours in a suitcase. It pours a clear dark amber color. Smell is light sweet malts with warming brown sugar highlights. Taste is soft, chewy, dark sweet malts with a hint of bitterness, and a short aftertaste of dark wood. Very soft on the cheeks.

On tap at the brewpub. Pour is a ruby brown, clear with a smallish off white head. Aroma of not too much (this was served pretty cold) - there is some nutty malt. Taste is caramel maltiness with big smoky peatiness. There is a nice interplay between the earth/sea peatiness and the caramel / fruit sweetness. Lingering dirty earth finish.

Growler, thanks to beastiefan2k. Brown pour with a reddish hint. Aroma is a little smokey, caramel malt. Flavor is the same, but sweeter than expected from the aroma, bubblegum maltiness.

Growler courtesy of beastiefan2k. Ruby tinted brown beer. Thin tan head. Nice rich smoky aroma. A bit of soft chewy fruitiness, toffee and some earthy licorice sweetness. Very rich complex malts. Light fruitiness accenting the sweet dark malts and rich smokiness. Excellent balance. Very tasty brew.

Gregis (1281) - Stilwell, Kansas, USA - JAN 26, 2008
On tap at the brewpub, courtesy of csbosox. Pours a deep, clear reddish-brown with a thin, creamy, beige head. The nose is of dark caramel, brown sugar and lightly smoky malts. Medium-bodied and oily, it finishes with a lingering, sweet, peaty finish. The flavor reminds me of a Paulaner Salvator (malty, brown sugar and caramel) with Scotch malt added to the recipe. This is a solid brew, and one that I’d recommend to any fan of the style.

Holy fuckin crap this shit is good. Totally smoky and vanilla wafer, delicious pale malts with the advertised "nuttiness". Best Scotch Ale EVER!
