Dark reddish brown appearance. Thick resinous body, some light citrus, and a nice mild malty body. Tried back in 2008 for the first time. rdixon77 (2951) - Georgia, USA - MAY 29, 2016

Tap at brewery
Pours deep amber hue a little lighter than most black ipa’s. Nose is big pine resin chocolate notes. Flavors are famtastic. Lots of grapefruit leafy hops chocolate toasted malt. No metallic notes at all. Body is full yet easy somewhat crisp even. Long bitter finish grapefruit rinds and toasted malt. Fantastic stuff! TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 17, 2015
Flight pour on tap at the brewery (Lawrence, KS). Pours a deep dark brooding ruby hue, transparency makes the depth of this blood and midnight hue more alluring with cakey tannish head atop, thicker and firm with nice lacing and full firm retention atop. Aromas show a bit of brown malt, toast and earth quickly meeting a firm bitter and floral hop profile, some Amarillo sweet gumball and citric slants do some work. Touches of toast, biscuit, earth, firmer floral cool bitterness atop. Initial is medium bodied, just a touch of girth quickly overwhelms with a more dominant hop dry and cool bitter slant. Touches of earth, gentle gumball and citrus. Some earth, cool and bitter florals. A bit toasty, gentle stickiness into the middle shows a bit of body. Some caramel and girth, firm toasty and biscuity feels into the back but the hops still run the yard on this one. Florals, middling bitterness still presses through an apparent more girthy malt offering. Some toastiness, firmer biscuit and carmelized elements come to roost, battling back and forth and finding symbiosis with the potent hop counter. Finish is a decent bitterness trumping some toast and carmelized biscuit elements. Overall, a hop forward offering. This brewery certainly delivers the hops.

This is a good beer. Had in Lawrence at their tap room. Pours a dark brown and had a good head. Good beer. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - FEB 21, 2013
Pours a deep brown with dark amber notes and a medium creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of caramel, toffee, light citrusy hop notes. Flavor of caramel malt, nuts and a bunch of citrusy, piney and floral hop character. Kcwildcat98 (48) - - JUN 1, 2012
Has a nice golden red color. At first does not taste like a traditional IPA but finishes well on the back side. Will not hop you to death, but allows for a few more to go down over the evening.

On tap the Flying Saucer. Pours a clear, dark cola brown with an off white head. Sticky on the lips. Earthy, molasses, roasted coffee malts with hints of herbal hops on the nose. Well balanced and lighter bitterness throughout the finish. Pleasant.
