Bottle from RobertDale, thanks man! Aroma has nice stinky hop notes of citrus, tropical fruits, resin and herbs. Medium clear amber hue with a small white head that mostly diminished and left some lace. Flavor is medium sweet and very bitter. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Overall a solid IPA. Aroma is on the thin side. Leaves a thin even layered head in the glass. Taste is smooth and definitely not overpowered for a winter ale. Respectable offering.

Clear old copper pour with a 2 finger creamy off white head. Aroma is loaded with sweet citrus and mango and passion fruit forward tropical fruit, floral and light toasty malt. Flavor is lightly sweet caramel and biscuit up front, sweet fruity esters, some citrus, tea like, earthy and light tropical fruit hops, kinda plain compared to the aroma. Light to medium body, neutral to slightly syrupy, but dry feel and light, but blanketing and somewhat sharp carbonation. Good stuff overall, but it’s one of those IPAs that smell really good at first, then are a little disappointing at first sip, then the best parts of the aroma seem to fade away as well leaving a good beer that is still somewhat disappointing. Sorta flash in the pan scenario. joshmcg000 (388) - Iowa, USA - NOV 30, 2014
Pours clear copper with active carbonation, off white head. Aroma is strange, never smelled a beer like it, maybe the yeast? it has a bit of citrus, maybe a little coriander, and alot of spiciness to it. I don’t really know how its at all a IPA but it is interesting and pretty good. GJF (1520) - Mount Vernon, Iowa, USA - DEC 26, 2014
Bottle on Christmas day. A nice surprise. Good, citrus-dominant IPA. Nothing out of the ordinary, but well done.

Flight pour on tap at the brewery (Lawrence, KS). Pours a nice deeper glowing orange hue, near transparent with dulled winter sunset glow. A cakey offwhite head atop stays as a nice layer, good retention and lacing stick around well. Aromas are a bit spritzy, gentle citrus wafts into some soap, subtle florals and bread malts atop. Touches of gentle carmelized and subtle sweetness pokes through a sufficient hop bouquet. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of girth and caramel hit the palate quickly aided by a firmer handed hop character. Florals andsoap meet a dab of citrus, faint melon and some caramel. A bit thicker, some touches of sweetness poke in and out. A gentle waft of gumball, grapefruit and subtle tropical fruit grow a bit, firm bitterness presses on into the backend and finish. Dry, bitter, a bit of girth and some warming ABV hit the palate, displaying what I guess "Winter IPA" means. A dab of sweetness and a touch more girth are palpable in this offering but at the same time a reasoned and heavy handed hop character still keeps it in line with all the other hop forward offerings Free State is putting out. A bit darker and sweeter but still good stuff. GranvilleTim (1855) - Granville, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2015
Thanks Bob! Amber pour with an off-white head. Aroma is a combo of fruity and spicy hops. Taste is spicy hops. Very vibrant and intense. Pine aftertaste and finish. Strong malt base. Nice lacing. jandd1983 (4317) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - NOV 18, 2012
It poured a copper color with an off-white head. The aroma was citrusy hoppy. The taste was a nice balance of citrus, fruity hoppiness and a caramel maltiness with a little bitterness. Very well done. vyvvy (6460) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - NOV 12, 2013
Pours clear golden copper with a soapy beige head. The aroma has mushy caramel malt, soap, citrus and lightly dank hops. It has a medium crisp body with modest amount of carbonation that’s pretty gentle. The flavor starts with crackery malt, dry caramel, some fruitiness and a hint of citrus. The finish is pretty astringent and adds some spicy / piny hops. Its a decent IPA. kdm1984 (814) - Missouri, USA - NOV 13, 2013
Mild aroma of citrus and slight pine that becomes nuttier the more it sits in the glass. Pours deep orange with good head (finger-length) that stays around for awhile. Good lacing. Taste - some nutty malt; grapefruit and herbal hops. Finish started out a little fishy, but the more sips I take, the more it’s just ending bitter. Somewhat watery palate. I was expecting perhaps a little spice or something for a winter seasonal, but this is a fairly standard IPA (could also qualify as an APA). Easy to drink. Nothing great, nothing horrible.
