A refreshing American pale ale using only one variety of hop, known as Citra. This beer is characterized by a toasty malt presence and a citrus hop flavor, sometimes described as grapefruit, orange, melon, or lemon.

Bottle to corona glass. Pours a copper color with sparse head that dissipates quickly. Kinda bitter taste despite the malty nose. I do get citrus out of this, but it’s not too awesome.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a lightly hazed golden yellow color with a big billowy white head. The head has a good level of retention slowly fading over time to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma was heaviest of malt and citrus. The malty smells are of a biscuit, bready, and grainy smell. The citrus is mainly of a lemon but contains some notes of orange sweetness as well. Along with these aromas are some lighter grassy hop smells giving it a rather balanced pale ale smell overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a smooth bready taste that has a light amount of orange and caramel sweetness. As the flavor advances, the caramel is lost with the bready flavor taking on a more cracker like taste. While the caramel fades, more and more lemon tastes come to the tongue along with a grassy and pine hop flavor. These flavors along with a little bit of a lemongrass and grapefruit coming to the tongue, together leave a nice blend of bitter and malty flavors to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is on the thinner to medium side in terms of its creaminess and thickness with a carbonation level that is on the average to slightly higher side. The feel is quite nice for the drinkability and the blend of malt and hop; producing a smooth and flavorful easy drinker.

Overall – A nice flavorful and rather balanced pale ale. The blend of malt, hops and the smooth feel create a very nice drinking brew.

On tap at Johnny Brenda. Aroma of old grapefruit and soapy malt. Pours amber with a nice medium white head. Taste is dull grapefruit, orange peel, and a strong homebrew malt presence. The hops are barely there and I feel like they will not be there much longer. Big malty finish. Not a fan of this "pale ale".

Clear golden body, thin white head, spotty lacing. Medicinal, perfumy citric hop notes. A bit astringent with light grains. Medium to light bodied, carbonation is a bit zippy, mild bitterness, thin finish.

No bottling information.

Appearance: The body is a lightly hued orange with a slightly velvety texture. The head is short with a white head, quickly settling to a thin coating with a tall foamy ring.

Aroma: The aroma is dominated by citrus, I get grapefruit, orange and a light cantaloupe aroma. The malts are restrained but add a slight sweetness.

Taste: The malt base is a bit thin, slightly toasty, with a mild bitterness without much hop flavor. Some citrus, but nothing like the aroma.

Palate: Slightly watery with light carbonation.

Overall: This is sort of disappointing, the aroma is decent, but the flavor is a noticeable step down. The flavor needs some re-working, a slightly stronger malt base and more hop flavor.

Bottle. Nose is lightly hoppy but more focused on caramel and light toast, pours lightly hazy golden with orange highlights and a dense off-white head. Taste a little more doughy, reminiscent of even certain breakfast cereals, smooth with light little bits of toast and spice (this is actually more like a peanut butter oatmeal cookie), softish medium body, caramel not too thick. Hops are citric but not to strong, taste is only lightly sweet overall, not tart but also not really bitter at all. Gummy yeast note, some paper from the Simcoe, relative still (little carbonation). Clean and fresh, but having this right after Otter Creek’s Citra = a huge letdown.

bottle pours golden amber, thick three finger head. subsequent pours just add more foam. nose is just some wet sloppy cereal grains. taste adds moderate bitterness. light bodied, but overly carbonated.

From notes; November 1, ’13.

A: Citrus and hoppy but not overly so with some pale sweet malts and a hint of bread.
A: Hazy gold with an off white head: foamy and one finger. Some thick lacing but not much of it.
T: The Citra shines through strongly. Big amounts of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon and grassy. The flavor on the back-end is a biscuit like malt, and a biting bitterness.
P: Medium body with a hop bitterness that hangs around.
O: For a pale ale this really tastes like an IPA.

I agree with voodoo below. i have had this beer on tap at the fridge in lancaster and it was very good. i got a six pack thinking it wold be the same, but the bottle almost exploded when opened and the carbonation was way out of wack. the yeast was really present and the hops tasted like tobacco. i hate to give this beer a mediocre rating - I would give it a 3.3 on tap, but in bottles it needs some quality control. tastes too much like a first-time home-brew.

Exceptional pale ale. Had it from a growler from Pinocchio' in Media PA. Hazy amber with lacing head. The aroma is full of pine and citrus with some sweet malt underneath. Same for the flavor. Very dry and refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
