COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Legend has it that long ago, before the Aztecs, the god Quetz chose the Tadarida bat to care for and proliferate the fruit of Opuntia—the tuna, or prickly pear. Since then Fortuna Roja—the red-crested vanguard—has warded the little fruit from feasting predator insects and carried its pollen across countries and continents as the cacti have travelled from their source in ancient Tenochtitlan. This stunningly bright-hued beer is our homage to the efforts of the Fortuna Roja, its intense tartness curbed only by the fullness imparted by the tunas during its long torpor in oaken barrels. ¡VIVA FORTUNA ROJA! Ingredients: Pilsen & acidulated malts, raw wheat, flaked rye; Texas prickly pears; Perle hops; top-fermenting yeast; wild yeast & bacteria; natural, limestone-filtered, Edwards Aquifer H2O; love

Pours ruby red and cloudy with a pink head. Smells of tarte fruit, lactic sour, some funky hints. Taste is hard to describe. It’s a pear/cherry taste with some velvety underlying tartness and an acidic finish. Great beer.

Bottle, huge thanks to Caleb. Crazy pink/magenta dark rose, with white head. Aroma has big notes of bleu cheese, cactus, cheese, funk, acetic apples, berries. Taste has awesome tart berry, cactus, pear, and apple notes, with some big green apple vinegar notes in the middle, with a big dry sour in the finish that is funky, dry, and perfect. Really delicious, and very unique.

Bomber at CL release, what the hell is going on with this color its like magnetic pink rose peddles man. Really out there and fitting cause this beer is just full of surprises. Figured this koolaid beer was gonna be a straight up fruit beer but not so much. Funk y cheery notes, light skins and pit. A hint of oak with some spicy prickly pear notes. Really sublime sad i didn’t take better notes.

Thanks to Eric... A great color of magenta, reminds me of CCB Pilot Series Dragon Passionfruit. A great super pink head, forms a great ring, awesome... The aroma is light funk with floral and herbal cactus notes. Really interesting.... The taste is a sweeter than I imagined, sugared flower water with some cactus juice, light tart raspberry finish... This is pretty outstanding, would love to have again.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2011 Had on tap at Freetail and a few times in bottle, aging one for a few years to see where it goes.. . Pours a crazy cherry red.. . decent foam, light spits of lacing .. . tart.. . flavours of cherry, wet hay, fake powdered sugar cherry koolaid( you known, prison style ), cherry skin, and what i’m guessing to be prickly pear .. . a milder sour, but enjoyable i really dug, especially from the the ’special edition’ 30ml bottle, you got me right- an amazing beer and I know one thing...We find that crazy typewriter, we’ll find our kidnapper..

Bottle courtesy Swalden28. This beer pours a brilliant rosy red color with pink hues. Light ring of bubbly white-pink head. Aroma is pickles, with a bit of sweetness. Pickles are pretty dominant. Flavor is very tart and tingly. There are a bit of plant-like notes in this and flavors of cherry jolly rancher. This is very tart indeed.
