on tap at Freetail Brewpub SA(9Jan11)pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is coffee and booze with some nice dark fruit in there as well. Flavor is toffee, sweet caramel malt and a warming finish of booze and peppery spicing. Nice stuff. deyholla (12037) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Bottle thanks to Chad! Poured a near clear dark brown with a light brown head that lasted throughout the beer and laced. Aroma had a dark fruit note with some sweet grains, toffee, caramel and a bit of alcohol. Flavor started with dark fruits but was overtaken by toffee and darker grains with a bit of alcohol in the finish. BelgianBeerGal (4140) - Panama City, Florida, USA - OCT 14, 2010
2010 Bottle #13 courtesy of Whit. Pours a very dark brown with a small tan head. A little lacing and also some alcohol legs. Very interesting aroma that reminds me of a Belgian strong ale and sour cherries. Flavour is a shift from the aroma and hits you with just a touch of bitterness and roasted malt. Pretty tasty. Bottle #40. A dark brown beer with a nice head-looks good in a tulip glass. The aroma had a slight roast almost chocolatey. The taste is alcohol, dash of roast and chocolate, funk - carpet like, bitterness towards the end. There was a lingering aftertaste that this beer gives you that is somewhat unpleasant but this beer is rough around the edges. bottle 31 out of 60 .. . Opened to celebrate finally breaking through the 2000 review mark.. . Pours a dark brown, with a medium strength cream head .. . lacing is average.. . ya, he’s a real lightweight .. . god, this brew is way to easy to put down, like drinking water in the sahara .. . and her hooters ain’t bad either .. . very complex, dark bread crust, chocolate, light sweet maple roast, even light rum .. . This is a great beer, but i liked the barreled version alot more.. The life of a silversmith’s apprentice was not an easy one! Aaahh!
