I like the malt backbone, its not too caramelly and serves to show the hop flavors as well as a hint of roast. I don’t care for the coarse or overly "bitey" bittering hop dosage though. Not bad, but way too bitter for the amount of hop enjoyment I get out of it.
Rated based on notes taken 3 Nov 2012 -- On tap at the Dia de la Muerta release party at the Brewery! Good IPA, not as good as the Hopothesis. Solid. djd07 (15544) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAY 20, 2014
On tap at Freetail. Pours a clear amber with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is bready malt, caramel, raisin. Medium mouthfeel with biscuit, dark fruits, with lingering dry finish. Good. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 1, 2014
Pours more of a reddish color than an amber color, with off-white head. Citrus, pine, and malt character on the nose; all follow onto the palate. The pine is the dominant flavor on this one. Finishes with some nice caramel malt. travita (5008) - Dallas, Texas, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Tap at Freetail. The look is amber reddish in color, clear, and has an ok light beige colored head. The smell is caramel, burnt brown sugar, hops, pine, and grassy. The taste is pine, hops , decent bitterness, biting, caramel, and good.

(Draught) clear deep copper, lasting fine white bubbles. Nose of agave, quite citrusy, slightly malty. Taste of caramel, very bitter, piney, medium body and carbonation, herbal linger. HighWine (991) - Whalezbro, Illinois, USA - NOV 1, 2012
Tap flight at the brewery. Medium amber color in the glass with a thin white head that coats the rim as it recedes. A big earthy, grassy hop nose with some citrus scent added as a bonus. Wow, the flavor is a hop lovers dream. Extremely flavorful hop bomb without being astringent. Very floral, citrusy, and Earthy. There’s a great amount of malt to hold it all together and give it good balance for the style. Oily mouthfeel makes it that much more enjoyable. Best in show thus far tonight, and that includes La Muerta.
