COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Freigeist Abraxas, it’s also inspired by the style Lichtenhainer, but this version is stronger (6% alc.) and contains more lactic sourness. Brewed until 2012 at Braustelle (375 ml bottle), from 2013 at Göller in Zeil (330 ml bottle).

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden beer with a small white head on top. Aroma has a big smoke note, slightly grainy and wheaty. Smoke overwhelms a bit, in a good way. Flavor is a bit weird with smokey notes, slighly sweet but also a bit bitter and citrussy, Has some banana sweetness in the start and finish. Decent amount of carbonation and a slightly yeasty presence in the mouthfeel. Cool beer for sure, fun to try.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana/clove, wood smoke, salt, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and smoke/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of bready/smoked malt, earthy hops, and fruity/spicy yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana/clove, wood smoke, salt, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, grass, light pepper, and smoke/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness and tangy wheat tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apricot, pear, apple, light banana/clove, wood smoke, wheat, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bready/smoked malt, earthy hops, and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/tartness/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly saline mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice smoked wheat beer style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of bready/smoked malts, earthy hops, and fruity/spicy yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. This was not lactic sour at all as I would expect for the labeled style, but it is a very enjoyable offering as a smoked weizen style.

On tap @fine mousse, A clear copper beer with medium head. Nose is very peated with sweet caramel notes touch of smoke too. Aroma is on wet wood, smoke, sour background (is that wanted ??), lactic notes, dry, less complex, quite disappointing, low body.

Bottle at the beer bistro. Hazy yellow pour, big off white head. Aroma, is all smoke, burnt wood, and some grass. Watery mouth feel, very soft carb. Finish is quite smoky, and it dominates and detracts from everything else. Not getting much sourness at all, and almost no savoury saltiness. It’s just smoky. Disappointing.

Abraxxxas has a medium, cream-colored head, a very cloudy, unfiltered, golden appearance, and heavy lacing left behind. When the bottom caked sediment is swished and poured in, a gray cloud descends into the beer. Aroma is of mild smoke and pungent "beer aroma". Taste is of maraschino cherries, smoked malt, wheat, honey wheat bread, and no alcohol or bitterness. Some sourness is evident, but only in a sourdough way, so one would NOT think of this, I think, as a typical sour beer. Mouthfeel is medium, and Abraxxxas finishes semi-dry and easy drinking. Quite the interesting beer, this. RJT

Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma and taste are lemon / citrus and smoked malts / meats. A delicious grilled kabob of lemon-marinated meaty malts. Perfectly coincides with your Summer’s-No-Bummer mixtape.

500ml bottle pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a finger of white head that settles to leave only a few spots of lacing behind. Aroma is lemon with some cloves and perhaps coriander with some smoke and yeast. Taste is a lemon sourness with a clove spice and light caramel malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a decent brew that suits the style well.

Bottle at beerbistro. Yellow gold with fluffy white head. Aromas of smoked banana and wheat with some sourness. Dry tartness with hints of banana and clove, touch of sourness. Quite lovely beer. Very refreshing and satisfying at the same time.
