This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a extremely small sized head of frothy brown colored bubbles that were very quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque black brown colored body and a fair lacing. The weak aroma was brown malt chocolate and cherry. The dry mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering sour aftertaste. The tangy flavor contained notes of tart dry brown malt dark malt and cherry. An OK brew just nothing special.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. A black beer with no real head of foam. It has a sour cherry and chocolate flavour followed by tartness and earthy, roasted notes on the finish. Pretty good.

0,5l from bottle at Ottakringer Braukulturwochen bought at Ottakringer Shop. No BB date. almost black colour, small tan head. smells earthy, bit milky, some oxidation, light veggies, some coffee, but weird smell. medium body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of peppery / light veggie notes, licorice, light toasty, some sourness, light cherries. finishes lightly sour with notes of some roast, oxidation and light cherries. ok, but bottle tastes quite oldish / oxidized, not a fan.

Draught @ Bestie. Dark brown. Aroma has a bit of smoky note. Deep dark fruity character blends well with the earthy, chocolatey note. Actually closer to an ancho or aji panca than anything else I can think of.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cherry cola, mild lemon, roast, and hints of vanilla. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thin ring. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate and light cola. Tart cherry comes into play in the middle and mixes with light roast, faint lemon, and hints of vanilla. Its medium bodied with light carbonation. Overall, this is more roasty and a little more tart than the raspberry version. Sour/tart and roasty just arent my thing.

Cola coloured with a small beige head and medium carbonation. Aroma is a bit vinous, funky with overripe cheries. Flavor starts tart, funky cherries and ends with ash, roasted malts and some coffee. A brew with multiple personalities. A sour fruit beer and a porter in one. The combination works but it remains two in one and does not become a singular style. I would prefer a good sour or a good porter over this one.

Draught @ Canalhouse, 48-52 Canal Street, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire England NG1 7EH.

[ As Freigeist Salzspeicher Sour Porter - Cherry ].
Unclear matt dark brown color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white - pink head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate, cherry, toffee. Flavor is moderate sweet and light acidic with a long duration, tart cherry, chocolate, roasted. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20141012]

Bottle. Quite a fair amount of slightly metallic cherries, a subtle hint of vanilla, lots of roast, ashtray. Clearly sour and roasted-bitter at the same time. Lacks integration, haphazard and not enjoyable stuff, at least for me. Especially said combination of sourness and over the top roast does not go well together. Interesting idea, poorly executed.

Brown reddish color. Intense smell of dark bitter chocolate. Malty, cherry smell. Intense acidic, lots of cherry and complex roast flavors. Short aftertaste. Great complex sour porter

A steady pour into my glass produces a 1.5-finger thick, pale brown tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark, chocolate brown color that shows opaque, but a clear brown sheen around the edges. The beer smells lightly tart, or burnt roasted grain / coffee, and has a bit of supporting, cherry like fruitiness to it as well; so, all the character on the label is there. Lightly acrid, toasted whole grain bread, blackened whole-grain crackers, and roasted grain husks become the dominant note after a short bit.

Quite tart tasting at first, and there is lots of sour cherry flavor here; the latter, tartness, seems to be significantly derived from the cherries even. Bitter, not quite acrid, roasted, burnt grain notes as well as a wholesome, toasted brown, whole-grain character describes the malt character pretty well. The body is fairly light, but without being thin, it has just a touch of viscosity towards the middle finish.

This is certainly an interesting beer, the sour and cherry character are pretty straight forward executions added to this Porter, but the whole seems to work pretty well to make for a reasonably tasty tipple, but it doesnt really wow me either at this point. Still, this is nice, and I am enjoying this beer.
