3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Black with a thin white lacing of head. Aroma is slightly roasted and just a tiny bit musty. Flavor is strongest right up front with a nice roasted malt, slightly nutty. Balancing out quickly with a very slight hop character underneath. Finishes clean with just a hint of sweetness that lingers on the tongue. Solid porter.
22floz bottle, no date (likely old because I've only seen this brewery pop-up once before in my state about 2-4 years ago), $6, pint glass. It appears dark with minimal head, and has an oldish smell of nuts and dirt. Not at all impressive. It's just watery with notes of cardboard and non-dairy creamer. 4/30/15. 22oz bottle from Bird Dog. Dark brown pour with a small tan head, great lacing. A quaffable session porter? Buzzwords? It’s 6% - seems normal to me. Or were they referencing the drinkability? Oh well, here goes. Nice aroma, biscuit, toasty, light nuttiness, lots of chocolate. Tons of chocolate in the flavor, caramel, biscuit, lots of lingering toastiness, maybe some nuttiness? I sense some diacetyl on the tongue, but it’s not unwelcome in this case. Not a bad brewski. ronaldtheriot (2055) - Laplace, Louisiana, USA - FEB 19, 2015
French Broad Anvil Porter has a thin, beige head, a dark brown, almost black, appearance, and very little lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of dark malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is of the same with some caramel, a bit of char, and brown bread crust. Bitterness is relatively low. The mouthfeel is rather watery, and French Broad Anvil Porter finishes powdery and easily drinkable. Guinness Extra Stout is a much better value, but this is nice, anyway. This 22 oz bottle was sent to me by Strykzone. Thanks Dave. Poured a very deep red that looked nearly black. Light tan head with good retention and nice lacing. Nose of chocolate and coffee. Medium body. The flavor is well balanced between the coffee and chocolate. Earthy finish. Very nice overall. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - JUL 13, 2014
Dark brown pour with an off-white head. The aroma has quite a bit of chocolate as well as some roasted malt and a hint of mint. The flavor is similar. I get a lot of chocolate as well a hint of roasted malt. The flavor is very sweet overall. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Westchesterco (2274) - mclean, Virginia, USA - JUN 15, 2014
