Pours up a clear dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty, caramel, and toffee.The flavor is sweet, caramel and toffee, slight burnt toast. Smores camp fire like taste. Mild easy to drink. Some roast malt bitterness. Very nice brew.

1/31/2015: Sugary and caramelized malts in the aroma along with hints of toasted nuts; deep chestnut brown color with an ivory-colored head; caramel-toffee malt, raisin and golden raisin, brown sugar, toasted pecan, bread crust, subtle earthy hops, fleeting hints of soy sauce (something different that I can’t quite nail down); medium body, smooth and slick on the palate; damn good beer! Scotch Ale is my favor style and while French Board Wee Heavy-er Scotch Ale doesn’t have all the depth and smoke that I love in The Duck Rabbit Scotch Ale (one of my all time favorites), it’s still quite complex and a very interesting interpretation of the style. I like the lower alcohol (compared to many typical Scotch Ales) and the all around balance and drinkability of this beer. I really wish that I would have picked up a 6-pack of this since it isn’t available in Ohio, but I bet this is best on draught any war. Oh well, I’ll definitely be seeking this one out again the next time I’m in NC... Pours a beautiful clear garnet. World class head volume, lacing and retention.
Light nose of caramel with hints of toffee.
Light full bodied with a creamy texture. Normal carbonation with a bit of effervescence in the middle and a nice burst in the finish.
The flavor profile is good, but lacks the intensity and complexity to be outstanding. Balance is world class. Basically, you get a blended one dimensional flavor - weak caramel / subtle toffee.
