Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a deep red color with a tan head. The aroma is full of meaty smoke as well as some toffee and caramel malt. The smoke is classic Rauchbier. The flavor is more of the same. The malts compliment each other very nicely with some sweetness from the caramel and a lot of thick, meaty smoke. Ashy. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. I have actually been to this small town before while coming from Muhlhausen (before my beer appreciation days). Pours with a tan head and a deep brown body. Aromas of smoke, chocolate, and oatmeal. Flavors are grainy, with notes of cereal, chocolate, apple and smoke. Light bubbles. Decent smoked.

Bottle, thanks to Koelschtrinker in trade, amber brown color with some malty metallic flavors and a fruity finish, lacking smoke

Grima (2499) - Merzkirchen, RLP, GERMANY - DEC 18, 2010
330ml bottle! Into the glass is a dark brown, almost black beer with a good, high, fine cream crown. The smell is roasty smoky, caramel. Not particularly for ham, but in fact only of smoke and fumes. Starts roasted malt and smoky, this time with a hint of ham note. Plays with a little chocolate in the far background. The aftertaste is peat-smoky, tangy, becoming relatively quickly hoppy. To finish, it remains slightly smoky roasted flavor with a good peaty and earthy tones in the background.

fugitive (2028) - Athens, GREECE - JUN 22, 2010

jfb (6573) - GERMANY - JUN 7, 2010
(draught) pours a slightly hazy ruby-brown colour with a frothy light brown head. aroma of lightly toasted grain, with a hint of chocolate, nuts and herbal hops, a bit nondescript. flavour is more chocolate in the foreground, with some light smoke and char and a toasted-bitter finish. medium body and carbonation, just slightly watery.

shrubber85 (11570) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - MAY 20, 2010
Swing top bottle. Slightly sweet smoked meat malt aroma. Dark reddish brown color with giant tan head. Sweet caramel malt and smoked meat flavor - a bit light but nicely blended. Subdued smokiness but very good.
