Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Dark, with ruby shafts. Big creamy beige slab atop. Aroma of jam. Some strong jammy, berry, with a coffee tinged pudding mouthfeel and flavour. Very rich finish - a little sour, bitter and faintly warming. A very smooth mouthful all told. UPDATED: JUN 14, 2008 [500ml bottle direct from brewery] Relabelled as "WheresThePath Peat Bog Porter" for my brother’s 30th Birthday under the brewery’s superb bottle personalisation service. Slight carbonation, very sweet, lots of malt, an over-riding taste of treacle, some stewed plums, a large dash of coca-cola and a hint of chocolate. Dark brown with a thin off white head. Good prickly hops, massively fruity malt and some spice and liquorice. Interesting stuff. Good malty and herbacious finish. Enjoyable.

Cask - Planet Thanet Beer Festival ’09. A browny amber in colour with a thin layer of tan foam. Sweet aromas of honey and fruit with some smoked malts. Half pint, cask by handpump dispense at Guildford Arms in Edinburgh. Mahogany coloured body with a skinny strip of bubbly foam at the surface. Inviting smell of sweet dark caramel. Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 8/7/2013. Medium brown with a hint of red and a decent, off-white head. Sweetish, caramel, red berry notes, followed by some plain chocolate and liquorice and finishing gently. A good beer.
