CONCLUSION : barley wine de haute couture ..

Small, reasonably stable yellow-cream head over finely carbonated deep cognac-brown beer. Caramelly nose, fudge, toffee, (very)sweet dessert. Bit of green leaves, wet wood, alcohol & fusels. Sweet-bitter(ish) leaves, alcohol, caramel, treacle. Preserved cherries, cherrysyrup (in the good way), dried fruit (dates?). Pralines with cherry/plums ganache. Rich, viscous, alcoholic-warming; low carbonation. Good though not stellar for such a Barley Wine. 6/4/8/4/15

Tap at Flink Gegist festival. Dark reddish brown with bubbly beige head. Sweet malts, coffee, quite some herbs, alcohol, caramel, roast, thick toffee. Lots of coffee here? Over medium sweet and bitter. Full thick body. Not bad at all.

On tap at Fuggles Beer Cafe Tonbridge. Deep russet reddish deep brown colour lasting tan head. Sour plum and malty brown aroma. Yes syrong brown malts in the mouth. Sugars. Plums and light raisin flavour. Some hop on the finish. Pretty good. No real heat but you can tell it's a sipping beer. It's decent. Sweet no doubt brown malt. Some character.

Hazy deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry, decent fine minerally carbonation. Light malts but with a good richness, some caramel and cream and rich toffee. Touches of spice and rich tangy ripe fruits, a little rich marmalade, mild spice. Quite a light finish, good rich flavour but lacks the maturity of the very best.
