Not my favorite offering from these guys, but can say that it is the most interesting rye beer I have ever tried. Sort of equates to the liquid version of a dense, sour and tangy loaf of real german rye bread. Has the distinct sourness of a ripe sourdough starter as well as a tanginess I am not used to in beer. Light mouthfeel on this one. Lost marks on appearance- sort of a dirty amber color with no head or lacing. Pretty low IBU’s so definitely on the sweet side as well. Give these guys points for having the balls to make a rye beer that tastes like rye!
Tap @ Frothy Beard, 1st Anniversary. Amber color. Smells of dough. Tastes tart. Is this a Sour Ale. Not expecting this. Flavor of overripe sourdough. I hope it was a controlled infection. (4021) icehawk (876) - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA - DEC 10, 2013
Draft. Brown pour with no head. Very subdued aroma. Medium mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Finishes with a bit of tartness. Beerenberger (1605) - Fischer, Texas, USA - OCT 28, 2013
Aroma is subtly spicy. Pours a dark amber with a rapidly disappearing off- white head and no lacing. The taste is slightly sweet malt, and citrus, with a bit spice in the finish. Medium body and medium carb. Overall, an enjoyable and easy drinker.
