COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Note: This is different from the Mori no Weizen Oktoberfest that was made through 2011. That beer was smoked, this is not. This is an amber-colored hefeweizen.

Draugt in Yoyogi park. Seems to me like their classic weizen with an extra touch of caramalt, smooth and creamy, simple but quite enjoyable and balanced.

Fall Keyaki 2014. Hazy amber with a nice creamy head. Big banana bread aromas with clove and some light nutmeg notes. Creamy and easy drinking. More spice. Good stuff, but prefer the regular version.

Sample at S&G tasting. S&G goes to Japan PART 2. Special THX to Christian. APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, small unstable off white head. NOSE: hoppy, wheat. TASTE: hoppy, wheat, little sour, blueberries?

Half pour on draft at Maltan. Hazy amber with off-white head. Aromas of apples and dark fruit. Tastes of same. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Very dark for the style. Big banana aroma with wheat, some spice. Very smooth flavour, not too sweet.

Bottle from Asahita served in a weizen glass. Stylistically I think it is similar to the copper weizen but possibly a darker copper color with a more intense beige head. The aroma is intense banana, cloves an lots of buttery diacetyl. The taste is very much the same way more buttery flavor than I have ever gotten from Fujizakura & the only beer I have ever had from them that has a production issue... Disappointing...

Keyaki. Amber brown colour, small white head. Aroma is banana, grain. Taste is good, banana, ice cream, lots of malt too, touch of spice. Good stuff. Normal one is nice, but this has just something extra.

Draft. Jazy golden amber color, fluffy white head. Aroma of banana and summer fruit. Taste is mildly sour fruit. Decent.

My Bottom Line:
Banana esters envelop perfum-y conifers while peaches and doughy yeast render complexity.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam tops the cloudy amber.
-Even though the color is quite dark for a Weizen, this doesn’t taste like a Dunkel Weizen at all.
-Although this is simple, it is very effective AND authentic. A twist on the Fujizakura Weizen cannot be poor, that’s for sure.
-The aroma is particularly alluring.
-After a while, minty toothpaste notes are found.

On tap at Watering Hole.
